Great Blu Ray, Clean and Crisp

I currently have this Blu Ray player hooked up to a Samsung LN40A330 40-Inch 720p LCD HDTV. Before this i had it hooked up to a Samsung 1080p LCD but returned it after realizing there is little difference between 720p & 1080p on tv this small and how far away i sit, So why spend more then i have to. But now to the review. This blu ray player has great picture quality, it looks amazing almost life like. This review is really for average consumers who are looking for HD and still dont know much about it like me. So i cant speak much on features, for me its more about thrown in a blu ray dvd, does it look amazing. if the answer is yes then i am happy with the product because it meets my needs. But this player does have flaws, nothing major just that the light is very dim on the display and it is rather loud during loading and shut down. These are not a major problem for me though. Also if you have a Samsung TV i strongly recommend getting the Samsung blu ray because then you can use 1 remote control to operate both and its always nice to keep the same brand on all your components. I do also use a HDMI cable to hook this up to my tv. The picture look's great, i would recommend it for anyone just getting into the world of high def like me

Excellent and sleek

Looks great, although some might complain that the unit is a little plain but I can't argue over how well it works. Excellent picture quality and easy to set up and use.

The first Samsung 1500 Bluray player I bought did not work. It took forever to load and would only play sometimes. Watched 4 movie and each time it took at least 8 minutes before it would play. Since I got a super good deal on it I exchanged for the same model just a new player. It works perfect!!!! No problems at all, beautiful picture and sound.

Great player

This Samsung BP1500 is a great value. It played every type of DVD I put in it. It upgrades the ordinary DVD quality to near HD quality, a great feature. I would recommend this player to a friend, and I have. It plays Blu-ray DVDs to my HD TV with startling clarity. You really need an HDMI cable for the video (DVD to TV) and a fiber optic cable for the audio (TV to Amplifier/sound system). I would highly recommend this player and save a lot of money over other players.

Samsung BD-P1500 is...meh

I recently purchased the Samsung BD-P1500 at local Circuit City for $209 because of its price and ok reviews. when i first opened it up i noticed that the styling is decent though very boring. it has a coating of the usual gaudy piano black finish on the front making it very shiny (just like all Samsung tvs) and very eligible to collect dust, though thats just my opinion. Second thing I found before even plugging it in is that that the remote feels like a piece of bark when you hold it in your hands, its just bad news. the remote is also pretty unresponsive and you will find yourself clicking a button such as the menu button and nothing will happen so you will press it for a second time very forcefully because you are angry. there is also no back light so you dont know whats going on in the dark and only a few of the buttons glow in the dark. I also noticed that the power and tv volume/channel buttons have braille next to them for all the blind people that find that there regular DVD picture quality is just not up to there standards and need a blu ray player... Though there is not problem with the braille I find it a amusing addition to a blu ray player remote.

after plugging it into my 40'' Bravia W series in my dorm room. I noticed the front display on the player is very dim while the power button is outrageously bright. On initial set up everything was well and i was able to get all my selections as i wanted them but when I went to set up the sound the player started to making blender noises out of the speakers and making the screen display 'snow' (in hd so the flakes were really small) for 3-5 seconds and then the normal setup display would appear again, and about 2-3 minutes later it would go through the whole snow crackle effect again and this went on for about 10 minutes and then hasnt done it sense.

first movie I put in was Iron Man on BR in 1080p/24 and everything worked out ok. The only bad thing I noticed is that when it is loading the blu ray disk the machine really chugs along and makes alot of noise but It loaded quickly, put out TruHD sound, and picture quality was as expected. and then at the 5 minute point the snow and crackle came back for about 3 seconds and then went away for good and never returned. after the initial snow the movie played through without a problem all the way to the finish.

The Real disappointment with this player is the regular DVD up conversion. it is absolute garbage. I put my Transformers dvd in my Xbox 360 and watched the first few scenes on that in standard 480P and then put the disk in the BD-P1500 and there was No difference. in fact the quality seemed to get worse!!! the clarity was exactly the same and the sound was almost unchanged (abit better through the samsung but not much). the big difference is that the BD-P1500 made ALOT of VERY noticeable jaggie lines. the the letter V in one of the opening credits looked like a pair of steps. and at one point during the movie the camera panned across an airfield with F-117 Stealth jets and many of the diagonal lines of the jets were very jagged and pointy. with most of my movies being on regular DVD I would like to have a player that doesnt ruin them. the BD-P1500 also does not play DVD+R movies so if you have any movies backed up onto DVD+R you are out of luck.

Overall the BD-P1500 is a good Blu Ray player if you only use it to watch BR discs and dont mind holding a remote that feels like bark. If you want to use the machine for standard DVDs as well as blu rays i would look elsewhere. I am going to return the Samsung BD-P1500 and get the Sony BDP-S350 for $250 instead as it has higher reviews in every category and it looks more unique. not to mention it will sink to my sony tv as well.
