Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham will release his fifth solo album 'Gift of Screws' on September 15th on Reprise. The album is his first since 2006's acoustically focused 'Under The Skin'. Primarily recorded and self-produced at his home studio and on the road during the 'Under The Skin' tour, the album also features two songs co-produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance). Mixing the immediacy of the best of his contributions to Fleetwood Mac with experimental production flourishes, highlights of the set include 'Bel Air Rain', 'Time Precious Time', 'Underground, 'Love Runs Deeper' and 'Treason'. "You could certainly say this album is a distillation of a number periods of time, some false starts to make albums, certainly some songs that go back a number of years, that took a while to find a home here, combined with brand-new songs and a whole other outlook," explains Buckingham. "And the fact that there was a kind of tenacity and focus to want to bring all of this together in one place. The fact that as an artist I'm still, for better or worse, clinging to my idealism and to my sense that there is still yet much to be said. This is a culmination of that." "The first one was more of a boutique kind of album," he adds by way of comparing 'Under The Skin' with 'Gift of Screws'. "It's almost like the opening act and then the headline act in terms of the kind of approach. Here I'm bringing to bear many more aspects of what I can do - guitar solos, just rocking a lot more in addition to the other things. It does rock more! And they do seem to complement each other." The album also features the unmistakable sound of the Fleetwood Mac rhythm section, as John McVie and Mick Fleetwood contribute to several songs including the title-track and 'Wait For You'.

Buckingham Continues to Make New and Interesting Music

In a general musical landscape of boredom and monotony we still have Lindsey Buckingham. His music remains fresh and creative. This music is a pefect follow-up to his last outing.

Most talented musician!

Gift of Screws will not disappoint! Lindsay's song writing and guitar licks are one of a kind.

He gets better

There is life after Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey Buckingham just gets better with every solo album. While most of the other core Fleetwood Mac members (later days) struggles to stay relevant, Lindsey is a testament of how you could nick a Mac and still sounds great.

Gift of Screws: It's the thought that counts, right?

Gift of Screws was promised to rock much more than Buckingham's previous release, 'Under The Skin'. It does to some extent, but just barely. To this long time Buckingham fan, Gift of Screws sounds very much like Under the Skin. Buckingham has said that some of the songs on Screws date far back in time, but they are given much the same production style as the songs on Under the Skin. Unfortunately, that production style includes the much over-used echo effect on Lindsey's vocals. Thankfully the echo is used a bit less on 'Screws', but just the same, it often ruins the flow and feeling of the song. Lindsey was alwas touted as a recording studio genious and innovater, but it seems that much of his production creativity he demonstrated so well on his first two solo albums and on the Mac album 'Tusk' has largely been lost or forgotten.

There are a few gems on 'Screws', and Lindsey's already stellar guitar playing just seems to get better with time. Unfortunately, this release misses the mark and comes accross sounding like a CD full of demos in much the same way that 'Skin' did. Even the CD packaging has the same drab color scheme that was applied to 'Skin'.

Lindsey still holds on to his spot as one of the more talented guitar players and songwriters in music today. This fan hopes that he will release a CD that will showcase those talents much more effectively.
