Imagine a party, a musical party inspired by the holiday season. A party that celebrates the universal hopes, dreams and joy animating seasonal festivals the world over - Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid al-Adha, Kwanzaa, Yule and New Year's Day. That is what brought Yo-Yo Ma together with a remarkable group of friends - some old, some new - to create SONGS OF JOY & PEACE. It is Yo-Yo's hope that everyone who listens to this album will hear a song familiar, comfortable and beloved to them as well as discover and fall in love with music that is brand new.

Yo Yo...not my mother....but wish I had such a fun name!!!

I have just become a fan of Yo Yo Mas and I am so thankful that I started to get interested in his music. He has a wonderful way with the cello and the arrangements. I love alot of music for their background qualities. I will be playing this album at my holiday parties this year, and for my toddler as he falls asleep. I also love it at work. It is relaxing and calming. I can't wait to check out his other stuff as well. YO!!!!!

A WINTERY WONDERLAND OF MUSIC AND MEDITATION

It's beginning to feel a lot like . . . well, you get the idea. It's a bit too early for us to take a peek into Santa's gift bag, but we couldn't resist one early glimpse. Though the tracks reek of seasonal spirit, this is more a wintery musical mediation, with lots of Big Name guest stars (James Taylor, Dave Brubeck, Diana Krall, Chris Botti) spreading cheer and well, peace and joy, whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Eid al-Adha or Kwanzaa---or jazz, pop, classical, Celtic, rock or Latin.

YoYo Ma

My husband is a cellist and we recently attended a live YoYo Ma concert in Chicago. Of course live is better but this is not bad, the addition of "friends" to this holiday CD is interesting and pleasant to listen to. We both enjoyed listening to it and it was before the holiday season. Enjoy.
