No Activation Code Included!

This is one of my favorite movies. Our original copy needed to be replaced so I bought this Collector's Edition. In order to use the digital copy, an activation code is required. Unfortunately, there was not one in the box! I called the 800# help line and was advised that to obtain a replacement, the entire DVD Set, packaging, and original receipt has to be mailed to Disney and then we would have to wait several weeks for a replacement. This is NOT a Customer Friendly process!! What a ripoff!!

What's not to like???

The Nightmare Before Christmas is such a true work of imagination. The characters are touching and the music can easily get stuck in your head. It has just enough spook in it that even my 3 year old loves it. I also have a place in my heart for the bonus DVD which has a wonderful story on it called Vincent. I will never get sick of this movie...EVER!!!

Disney has decided to adopt it's "step-child project"

When Nightmare was originally released, it was released through Disney's Touchstone Pictures banner. As director Henry Selick recalls, "Their biggest fear, and why it was kind of a stepchild project, was they were afraid of their core audience hating the film and not coming."

That certainly wasn't the case and this time around Disney has decided to adopt it's "step-child project". This, however, comes with a couple nice "Disney Perks" as I will call them.

AND THE DISNEY PERKS ARE...

1. Should I ever damage the DVD or break it, Disney has a replacement program in which you can replace your DVD through them for $6.95 - this is a pretty good deal and it applies to ALL Disney films.

2. My DVD did not come with an activation code for digital copy. Rather than having to go through Amazon to return it, I called the 1-800 number on the DVD and Disney will not only replace my copy free of charge despite it being used, but they are going to pay the shipping both ways.

As for the Special Edition, there are some great features. The bonus disc contains substantial features, the digital copy makes putting the movie on my digital devices a breeze, and the DVD itself comes equipped with a "fast-play" feature. This is a great buy for fans of the movie - but don't wait on it, Disney has a habit of cutting us off by placing their movies back in their demand-creating Vault.

Takes some getting used to...

I was pretty excited to see this new release of the soundtrack, fully realizing it would be different from the actual movie soundtrack. It has a bunch of different artist doing their own take on the songs from the original movie music. Some of it is really fun, and others are REALLY different...
Only a few were in the same spirit as the originals, meaning you could sing along with them and such (like This is Halloween, or the bonus track version of Oogie's Song). This CD, in my opinion, is definitely not very kid-friendly, with some of the songs sounding a little scary and dark; Kidnap the Sandy Claws was pretty close to the original in tempo and such, but the artists do some screaming and sound really angry. I barely recognized most of the Town Meeting Song and Jack's Obsession, as compared to the originals. Most of the instrumentals were very nice though, Nabbed being my favorite.
This CD really takes creative liberties, some to a new, fun level, and others not so much. The CD is nice to have, but I would imagine that the actual soundtrack will be more popular in the long run.
