BAND RETURNS WITH BRAND NEW STUDIO ALBUM
"SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE"
SET FOR RELEASE ON APRIL 29

Album Release Kicks Off With U.S. Spring Concert Tour!

Album Contains 11 NEW Original Songs Including the Single
"Nine Lives" Featuring Tim McGraw

Def Leppard, Great Britain's premiere arena rock band, is back with a bang--kicking off 2008 with the release of their 14th studio album and a U.S. arena concert tour scheduled for this spring. Entitled Songs From The Sparkle Lounge (Bludgeon Riffola/Island/UMe), the album contains 11 new songs including the highly-anticipated single "Nine Lives" featuring a groundbreaking collaboration with country music superstar Tim McGraw. Songs From The Sparkle Lounge is Def Leppard's first album of brand new material since 2002's X and begins yet another remarkable new chapter in the band's 30-year recording career.

Recorded last year during month-long stints at lead singer Joe Elliott's Dublin studio, the album's title refers to a backstage area called "The Sparkle Lounge" on Def Leppard's 2006 tour where the band would go to write songs. Tracks from the album have been described by the group as written in the style of Hysteria, with the production of High 'n' Dry.

"The whole record's got a great '70s feel," said lead singer Joe Elliott. "By our standards, it's a very different album as we've been very adventurous, musically, on certain numbers. On the album there are classic Def Leppard songs and then there's also tracks that are very new-wave influenced while others sound like middle-to-late '70s AC/DC. There will definitely be some moments on it where anybody that's familiar with our music will go, 'Whoa! I wasn't expecting that!'"

The foundation for the album's collaboration with country music superstar Tim McGraw was layed at Def Leppard's 2006 Hollywood Bowl show where McGraw joined the band on stage for an encore performance of "Pour Some Sugar on Me." The artists stayed in touch following the performance, and when the band started writing the song "Nine Lives" they immediately thought of reaching out to McGraw to sing on it. Guitarist Phil Collen flew to Nashville to play it for McGraw who loved it and recorded the song in Nashville shortly after. Other standout tracks on the album include "Go," reminiscent of the band's classic track "Rocket" in its power and aggressive tribal beat; "Love," an emotive and moving epic song; and the anthemic "Tomorrow," a song written by guitarist Collen about the death of his father.

With more than 65 million albums sold worldwide and two prestigious Diamond Awards to their credit, Def Leppard--Joe Elliott (vocals), Vivian Campbell (guitar), Phil Collen (guitar), Rick "Sav" Savage (bass) and Rick Allen (drums)--continues to be one of the most important forces in rock music. Over the course of their career, the band has produced a series of classic groundbreaking albums that set the sound for generations of music fans and artists. The group's spectacular live shows, filled with powerful melodic rock anthems, have become synonymous with their name and they are an institution in the touring industry as they continue to sell out arenas worldwide.

Maybe their best effort

Loved this one the first time through. More hooks than a tackle box. Joe Elliot sounds as good as I've heard him. Also, you really never notice any shortcomings on the drums. Not Mike Portnoy, but really solid. A must have for any DL fan. Production is really good, although I've always found their backing vocals a little too doctored. Everything on this is good. Buy it!

It's about time!!!

Ever since Steve Clark died, things have never been quite right. I know they lost Mutt Lange, the drummer's arm and other tragedies, but after Steve died they seemed to have lost something in their spirit.

But it's back! No, they aren't rocking like the 80's, but neither am I, being around the same age. I haven't bought a record of theirs since the 80's, although I still go to the shows. I was crazy about them back then, still love them but more like a 25 year marriage kind of love, and this album gets me excited!

I'm shocked to say that it's good, really!

I've been extremely harsh on Def Leppard over the years, bashing pretty much everything they've done for the last 15 years. With the exception of "Slang" (1996) which saw the Leps branch out and take some chances, I have hated everything this band has done pretty much, since the death of Steve Clarke. "Adrenalize" (1992) sounded like "Hysteria-lite," "Euphoria," (1999) sounded rehashed, "X," (1992) was just a flat out embarrassment and "Yeah!" (2006) didn't have any teeth either. So pretty much I had given up on this band...

Browsing Newbury Comics I come across Def Leppard's new CD "Songs from the Sparkle Lounge" (2008) and my immediate thought is, "this is going to suck, just like every other Def Leppard album from the early 90s on up." But whatever, it's like 13 dollars, so I went ahead and bought it anyway...after all, I still dig the early stuff...

I go home, put on "Songs from the Sparkle Lounge" and to my surprise, the new Def Leppard doesn't suck, not at all--in fact, I find that it's really, really good. The new album actually *rocks,* yes, rocks. Unlike "X," this time around DL aren't trying to appeal to Bryan Adams fans by releasing adult-contemporary crap, and unlike "Euphoria," or "Adrenalize" DL aren't trying to relive the past either. On the contrary, with "Songs from the Sparkle Lounge" Def Leppard sound revitalized, fresh, and for the first time in AGES...hungry. The band manages to still sound like the Def Leppard I once loved, yet a little more mature, without losing anything. The grooves and hooks in these songs are undeniable. Highlights "Nine Lives," and "C'mon C'mon," easily rank up there with some of the bands early 80s classics and with the exception of the dud obligatory balled "Love" (how original) all of these songs are quite strong.

To all fans of early Def Leppard who thought the band should have called it quits years ago--give the new album a try--I'm shocked to say that it's good, really!

A step up

This one is much better than the last couple of Lep discs. It sounds like there is some genuine excitement in some of these songs. However, it does not reach the same level as Pyromania or Hysteria.
