One of the most influential bands in music, ranked eighth on the list of the biggest-selling groups in history, Metallica unveils its ninth studio album, Death Magnetic. The band's
first album in five years, Death Magnetic is also its first with renowned producer Rick Rubin (Danzig, Slayer, System Of A Down,
Slipknot), first with bassist Robert Trujillo, and first on Warner Bros. Heavy and thrashy, unafraid to embrace the band's past yet move
into the future.

Great album

I really liked this album. Certainly the best they've had out in a while. If you like any Metallica album, I think you'll love this one.

Back At Last!

This is the Metallica album we have all been waiting to hear. This is a new classic album that will go down with the rest of their best work!

Back ffrom the dead....

A 100% return to form for Metallica!
There will always be the naysayers but the truth is THIS IS METALLICA.
I've been a fan since day one in 1983..this is their best since...And Justice for All....hands down.Hell,I even like Unforgiven III!!It's light years beyond parts 1&2(just listen to Kirk SHRED!)

My feeble 44 year old brain is blown......!!

It's No

Ok, so basically, giving the fact that I am only a 19 year-old metal head, I am not the most gifted in the history of Metal. But to anyone who is anyone, Metallica is always on the tip of the tongue when you ask `who is the most powerful metal band?'

I bought St. Anger the day it cam out, and minus the trash can drums and lack of anything remotely creative, it was tolerable, more so than Load or Reload. It wasn't great...or even good, but it was good background noise in a woodshop (which speaks on its quality).

Then Death Magnetic came out. I was wary, but I read a review of an old-school metal head on his site ([...]) and he said it was good. He has never wronged me yet, so I went after it.

I have to say, I am actually pleased with this record. First off, the shortest song is 6 min. long, meaning that they FINALLY let go of the old fashion verse, chorus, verse, chorus X2 end formula that has in my opinion plagued the band since the Black Album. I guess that booting Bob Rock and placing the career doctor Rick Rubin in role of producer finally lit a fire under Metallica to make a decent record.

As far as songs go, the drums are good. No trash can style going on here. There is even an instrumental thrown in there for good measures to keep the fans of "Orion" at bay. Now, this record is no where near any of the 4 great records from the beginning, this is actually like if Metallica recorded during the time between ...And Justice for All and the Black Album. But it is still good none-the-less.

I have read about the sound quality, and it's not too noticeable unless you are looking to find it. You need to remember that Kill `Em All was quite the crappy record as far as productions go. This in my mind was intentional; Metallica is trying to show that they remember the sound that got them to where they are.

All in all, a good record. It's nowhere near Master of Puppets, but it's a start of good things to hopefully come. I recommend getting a used Amazon copy if you are still wary. And you can always upgrade to the expensive sets Metallica's has out on there website.
