Built in Japan to his exacting standards and incorporating new techniques and materials, it was in 1983 that Lee
Oskar
introduced his new
harmonica
. The radically different harp design grew out of Lee's frustration with the lack of quality and consistency in the mouth harps of the day. The design also benefited from Oskar s insights as a seasoned recording and touring pro. This limited edition

Harmonica comes in the key of C and features gold-plated cover plates with special anniversary engraving. The Dane s Design Central to Oskar's design is a smooth plastic comb that doesn't swell like traditional wood combs. Aside from being easier to keep clean, the plastic comb is impervious to the swelling of conventional harmonica wood combs that can tear up the player's lips. By making affordable replacement reed plates available, Oskar's harps can be easily refurbished. You no longer need to toss out a harmonica because a reed or two has gone south. Lee Oskar 25th Anniversary Harmonica -- Golden Classic
I love my Lee
Oskar
25th
Anniversary
harmonica
. I just received it today in the mail. It's my twenty-fourth harmonica in my arsenal.
As I mentioned in one of my previous reviews, I was inspired to play the harmonica by A Chipmunk Christmas. This harp reminds me of the
Gold
en Echo harmonica in that production.
Get yourself a virtual golden echo harmonica before these babies are gone for good.
Can't Decide Whether to Play It or Keep It in the Box
The Lee
Oskar
harmonica
s are very nice -- plastic combs are smoother and easier on the lips, and they have a smooth, resonant tone. This is essentially a standard Lee Oskar
major
diatonic
harmonica in C -- identical in every way to the standard one, in fact -- except that it has
gold
-plated cover plates. It's very pretty and eye-catching. Even the screws are gold-colored. It also comes with a nice little velvet-lined box with a magnet that holds it closed. It would make a nice gift for anyone who plays harmonica or would like to play harmonica. The only question is whether you find it worthwhile to pay the price premium for harmonica that is functionally identical to the $25 model but prettier.
I was considering putting it in a box and trying to sell on eBay in ten years, but it's just too pretty _not_ to play.
