The Sanyo Katana II mobile phone enhances the spirit of the original Katana with a sleeker shape, a radiant new pink fascination finish, and a host of refined features. It operates on Sprint's North American CDMA voice and Sprint Vision network, which provides Web access as well as email and text messaging capability. This flip phone also features a 21 MB memory--significantly increasing the capacity for games, ringtones, and applications from the original Katana--a VGA camera, Bluetooth connectivity for communication headsets, and optional GPS service.

Retaining its predecessor's thin profile, the Katana II adds a fashionable radial finish. The Sprint Vision network gives you the power to access Web sites, view your email, and send a variety of text and multimedia messages. Sprint Mobile Email enables access to email from popular providers simply by entering username and password with no downloads required. You can also access Web-based email from such services as AOL and Windows Live as well as chat on IM networks. The T9 predictive text entry technology is built into the unit, which makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Measuring just 0.6 inches thin, the Katana II sports a bright 2-inch internal LCD that offers a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and 262K colors, which also features IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology for wide-angle viewing with superior brightness and contrast. It's supplemented by an exterior TFT LCD (80 x 80 pixels, 65K colors), which enables quick viewing of the time, caller ID, and more.

This phone enables you to store up to 300 contact entries with 500 total phone numbers, 600 email and 300 Web addresses. It has a call history of 20 outgoing calls, 20 incoming calls, 20 missed calls, 60 recent calls. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, and advanced voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family, and associates easy (up to 30 entries). Simply say the name or number of the person you want to call and the number is dialed automatically without using the keypad. It also offers PIM organization applications (calendar, to-do list, world clock, calculator, and stopwatch), 4 distinct vibrating alerts, 72-chord polyphonic ringtones, and a 2.5 mm stereo headset jack.

Capture images up to 640 x 480 pixels with the digital flash camera and zoom, then easily share photos with family and friends using Sprint PCS Picture Mail. The VGA camera can capture images up to 640 x 480 pixels, and it includes a 12-step digital zoom, brightness controls, a self-timer, and color tone/picture effects. Shoot and share your digital photos instantly with Sprint PCS Picture Mail. This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and vCard transfer. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking (DUN)--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.

Sprint Navigation, powered by TeleNav, provides full-featured GPS navigation including voice and on-screen turn-by-turn driving directions and more than 10 million business listings (TeleNav unlimited requires data plan plus monthly subscription). Other features include: Identify callers instantly by downloading ringers and assigning them to each number in your phone book. Picture Caller ID: Identify callers at a glance by linking downloaded photos and other images to your phone book. Personalize your phone based on the applications most frequently used; assign favorite device activities to the corresponding menu numbers for quick access. Hearing aid compatibility rating of M4. Connects to a TTY device, allowing anyone who is hearing impaired the ability to communicate Wireless Backup: If your phone is ever lost, stolen, damaged or replaced, you can use Wireless Backup to restore your contact information quickly and easily. Additional charges apply.

Great Phone

This phone is very cute. It's very slim, which is nice. Good reception, so far no dropped calls (this depends on your network though). I have the pink. Doesn't have much protection to it if you were to drop it. It doesn't look there are many options for skins or cases out yet. I'd recommend insurance on your phone just in case it were to break.

Amazing Phone..Looks Good...Sounds Good...

I bought my phone from a sprint store. I was a Nextel customer and had to switch to sprint. So far, I have not had any issues with either. As a matter of fact, I absolutely love my phone. It's easy to use, extremely stylish, takes great pictures (I have yet to see another phone under $200 that takes pictures anywhere near as good as this one). I admit, if I were to drop it there probably wouldnt be much left. But you usually can't have everything, it's stylish Vs. rugged. Also, the ringers you download sound amazing, nothing like the motorola phones I have used in the past. For text messaging, the inbox is huge so you don't have to always pick and choose which ones you can keep.
I don't know if it is because of the phone or the service but calls are crystal clear. Even on a bluetooth headset. (That was really easy to set up to by the way)

About the only thing I could think of to improve on would be a longer battery life. The manual did not come with recommended charging times. Battery life usually last around 18hrs. I use mine a lot for texting though so it may last longer for other things.

I would definitely recommend this phone for anyone from the average user to the on-the-go techie.
