Issues feature great articles on gemstones, artist profiles, the jewelry arts and Step-by-Step easy-to-follow workshops on jewelry making, gem cutting, and more. Also included are exquisite full-color photo spreads, the world's largest international gem show calendar and much more!

Formerly Lapidary Journal

In case anyone missed the name change; this magazine was formerly "Lapidary Journal". I been a subscriber for over 10 years. While I get other jewelry (artist/ trade) magazines, I find this one to be the most interesting, useful and diverse (no small feat).
For many years LJ has included articles/ how-tos/ tool sources, etc. for other aspects of jewelry craft, and so ultimately made the decision to change the name to more accurately reflect it's content.
Don't get it confused with other craftsy magazines out there. Thus one is not full of the same fluff, redundant projects (and even photos) which make up the bulk of mags on the subject.
When my mailbox overflows and it's time to cut back on subscriptions- this is the ONE I hang on to.

Note: the prior reviewer makes a very good point. It takes quite a while for magazines ordered through Amazon to get started. take heed of that advice if you are looking to maintain a subscription.

How-to, tools & materials, and inspiration

Every amateur jeweler (and lots of pros) should read this magazine. Each month, it offers a wide range of how-to articles aimed at different skill levels, including complete projects. The gallery section might really get your creative juices flowing, though. When I see so many fine pieces in so many materials and styles, it really makes me want to drop the magazine and get back to the bench. And, of course, the ads offer crafters many sources of tools, metal, gems, books, and other necessities.

Good product, slow process

I can review this magazine because I have received it for years-- I consider it the most interesting magazine for jewelry makers/metalsmiths. However, I'm much less happy with the decision to subscribe through Amazon. I have not yet begun receiving my subscription, so I am missing issues. It will, apparently, take several months for the magazines to resume coming.
