In this collection of Great Railroad Adventures, we travel the length of Europe. From Romania to Hungary and Holland to Switzerland, experience some of Europe's most fascinating train journeys. All aboard! Our next adventure is about to begin.
Chapter 1: Romania Departing from Bucharest, we travel across Romania's verdant landscape before entering the rugged and majestic Carpathian Mountains. After stopping briefly in Sinaia, dubbed the "Pearl of the Carpathians" for its majestic mountain vistas, we proceed north through Transylvania to the medieval city of Brasov.
Chapter 2: Hungary Our Hungarian train adventure begins in Budapest, where we board one of Hungary's historic steam trains: the one-hundred-year-old Imperial Explorer. From Budapest we journey to the spa resort of Keszthely, along the shore of Lake Balton. This region is famous for its hot mineral springs and luxurious spas. From Keszthely we proceed to Solymar, and then head north to Eger in the heart of Hungary's wine country.
Chapter 3: Holland Although Holland is among the smallest countries in the world, it is the world's biggest producer of tulips. Our journey begins in Hoorn, the capital of the tulip-growing district situated along the western coast. From there, the train continues to Amsterdam and then on to The Hague. The ever-present Dutch windmills punctuate fields of flowers as we travel across Europe's garden.
Chapter 4: Switzerland Switzerland is not to be missed by those traveling by train. On this adventure, we take a spectacular journey from Luzern through the Gotthard Tunnel and then to Locarno. We cross over narrow mountain passes for panoramic views of magnificent Alpine valleys and the towering snow-clad peaks of the Swiss Alps.
