30 Rock is Incredible, and Amazon helped me get it cheap!
Amazon made the purchase of this product very easy. It was easy to find and simple to buy, which isn't what I have found on other websites. I would suggest this site to any online shopper. The 30
Rock
DVD box set is incredible. The main menu gives a short excerpt of each episode making it very user friendly. The episodes also provide the running time, so the viewer knows how much time has passed and/or how much time is left. The final disc of the box set provides bloopers and unseen footage from the show, in case you didn't get enough laughs from the previous 21 episodes. Each episode shares with the viewer a very funny outlook of a comedy series that is produced by as well as acted by Tina Fey. The other main characters include, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, and Jane Krakowski. This combination is the perfect match-up on camera. Each has their own style of comedy, which makes it entertaining for every viewer. The comedy style of Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) is very sarcastic and witty, whereas the style portrayed by Tracy Morgan is mildly vulgar as his Jack Donaghy's (Alec Baldwin). Tracy Morgan plays the lead of his own show on 30 Rock. He is very much a diva throughout every episode. He expects to be pampered by those around him, and goes about it very loudly. Liz Lemon plays the producer in the show, and spends a lot of her time keeping the actors on the show at peace with one another. Jack Donaghy's role is that network executive. He doesn't like to be involved with much, and goes about getting his way rather rudely. Jack's character provides a grumpy old man style of comedy. Jane Krakowski plays Jenna Maroney. Her character ignites the show by portraying the role of a ditzy blonde. Her role brings in the laughs at her own expense. This box set was a great purchase, and if you are looking for a simple fun comedy then 30 Rock is the show for you.

This is what television was made for
Shows like 30
Rock
are what TV was made for! The combination of great writing, improvisation, and fleshed out characters make the 30 Rock
season
dvds worth watching over and over again.
Oh blerg!
"30
Rock
" debuted in 2006, which was a crowded year for new TV shows. As sometimes happens, another show with a similar premise debuted the same
season
- "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." That show boasted an impressive pedigree (creator Aaron Sorkin and stars Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford), and I chose to watch it instead of "30 Rock." Big mistake! "Studio 60" was of uneven quality at best and was soon cancelled. In contrast, "30 Rock" has won numerous Emmy's, including Outstanding Comedy Series." I decided recently to take the plunge and watched the 22 episodes of season 1 over a span of about 2 weeks.
In a nutshell, the show concerns the cast, crew, and writers of "The Girlie Show," a sketch comedy program starring Jenna Maroney ("Alley McBeal's" Jane Krakowski) and featuring head writer, Liz Lemon (Tina Fey). A new network executive, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), takes a special interest in the show and decides to punch up the ratings by adding a controversial black comic, Tracy Jordan (SNL's Tracy Morgan). Tracy has serious issues, and it's sometimes hinted that he may actually be psychotic. This character could have been offensive in the wrong hands, but they have made the character so over the top that it's hard to take seriously.
The setting allows the show a great deal of flexibility, with actors even getting to work in a few SNL-type characters, including Tracy Morgan's funny Oprah impression. However, "30 Rock" focuses largely on the relationships between these characters. In particular, Jack takes on a mentor role with Liz Lemon and decides that she needs a life beyond work. He often sets her up and/or gives her advice, which she typically rejects. Jack is also single, which allows a parade of funny guest starring roles for the love interests of Jack and Liz, with Emily Mortimer scoring best as Phoebe.
I haven't watched many new sitcoms in recent years as I find that the writers too often change the characters quickly into caricatures of what made them funny in the first place. Fortunately, that didn't happen during the first season of "30 Rock." The show also does a nice job of balancing the many characters, although there is often more Tracy Jordan than I'd like. The real breakout star is Kenneth the NBC page (Jack McBrayer). His job initially involved guided tours, but before long he seems to be doing everything for the cast. I really enjoy the humor of his character, but there are enough different characters in this excellent ensemble that most people will likely find at least one of them funny. A few characters were under-used, particularly Jonathan, Jack's assistant, who is so fawning as to invite inevitable comparison to Waylon Smithers. It would be great to see this character and others developed in season 2 and beyond to help keep things fresh.
Overall, "30 Rock's" first season was a hug success, although the show does have some weaknesses. The episodes are sometimes a bit uneven. For example, some joke setups would play better on a sketch show and are not really conducive to a weekly sitcom. I also tired quickly of Liz's dating dilemmas. A few characters wore out their welcomes quickly during the season, particularly the boring producer, Pete (Scott Adsit); his character is clearly supposed to be the "sane" one, but that role is better served by Liz. Finally, it's silly that Jack as a network executive would spend so much time on one show when he oversees a huge chunk of programming. The show is also clearly unrealistic (almost surrealistic) at times, so you have to adapt to its tone. Well, I'm on to Season Two.

background music too loud ...
don't get me wrong for the 3 stars rating. this is a brilliant comedy. i just finished watching
season
1 in one seating. i LOVE it. everyone in the cast is just so funny. imho, there is NO supporting cast ... all the characters support one another and the special guests, man they
rock
too! but i have one gripe ... what with the BACKGROUND music, they just simply drowned out the witty dialogues. come on, knock off the background music, please. i hope ms. tina fey will do something about it. you don't need the background music to boost the show ... the dialogues are brilliantly written and they should be clearly heard by all.
