Electronic Cat Feeder with 24-hr timer for up to 48 daily feed cycles. It can also be operated at programmed times with any other plug-in timer like lamp timers or even home automation systems. It can be mounted to a 2x4 or 4x4 in the garage or porch, or on a simple platform and vertical wood mount (a Super Feeder is available complete with stand, stainless steel bowl and timer on this website or you can make a simple stand as shown here). You can even use a gutter to direct the food where you want and protect it from pests (see pic. here). It will feed from just a few bits of food up to several cups per day with as many feed cycles available as your remote timer has on-off cycles. This "basic" feeder holds a Quart and 3/4 Cup of dry cat food. A large stackable 1.5 gallon hopper is also available from the factory at a late time if you want to increase its capacity, or you may purchase the larger model (CSF-3XL) also on Amazon. Additional stackable two-cup clear extensions are also available from the factory. The amount it can feed HAS NOTHING TO DO with the length of time the remote timer stays on, you pre-adjust the feeder's own internal electronic feed-time system to control the length of time it feeds. The remote timer is ONLY used to trigger and power the feeder's electronic feed system at your programmed times of day--Neat dependable system! Just push a small non-removable trip-tab on the supplied timer's dial for each time you want to feed. That's it!

Excellent cat feeder - well designed and well built

I first tried the LeBistro feeder, mainly attracted by the lower price. It didn't work out, as discussed in my review of that feeder elsewhere here on Amazon. I ordered a Super-Feeder CSF-3 to replace the LeBistro. The CSF-3 has not disappointed. Compared to the LeBistro, the Super-Feeder is a bit more complex to assemble and set up, but still acceptably fast and easy to do. Most importantly, the Super-Feeder is an exceptionally well designed and thought out product. It also seems to be first class in its materials of construction. If something does break, the company sells a full complement of replacement parts at reasonable prices on its web site. As far as performance, it simply couldn't be better. It consistently dispenses cat food in the exact tiny amounts I set (about one-tenth cup per feeding) and at the exact times I set. The unit is very flexible with a large range of settings in selecting feeding amounts, and so far completely reliable, and I see no reason for this to change as time passes, based on the top-notch quality of design and construction. The best way to summarize my thoughts about the difference between the LeBistro and the Super-Feeder units is that the LeBistro seems to be a typical commercial quality product (with some significant negatives), while the Super-Feeder is an industrial quality product that works. Based on my initial impression and one week experience, I highly recommend the Super-Feeder CSF-3. It is worth the extra cost.

Super Feeder Rocks!

I ordered my Super Feeder on 5/21/08 and received it on 5/28/08 using standard Fed Ex shipping. Seemed like a longer wait than I would have liked, but you can have it sent faster for a little more money. Regardless, it was well worth the wait.

I paid $136.01 for the CSF-3 QUART SUPER FEEDER/BEST VALUE COMBO DEAL! This price was a little higher than even your more pricier one-piece feeders, and twice as much as some of the cheaper products out there. However, the Super Feeder has some immense advantages over these other feeders, as you will read below.

The product was sufficiently packed and definitely had a "home business" feel to it. The owner even wrote a thanks on the order form and placed his card inside. At first, I felt a bit put out as it seemed like there was a lot of assembly involved, but once I started reading the directions things quickly became clear. After ten minutes or so, I had pretty much figured it out and in another five had it ready to distribute food to my always hungry cats. I will admit that the instructions were not as intuitive as I would have liked. They were written in small print and all of the helpful images were posted in the back of the document like an index. I would recommend an improvement by re-writing the instructions so that the images are next to the actual steps and dispersed throughout the document. There is a lot of stuff to read in here, so I recommend going through the entire document before getting started. Also, I thought I would have an issue with the bowl not being attached to the base. I was sure that my four cats would push it off the base in less than a minute. This turned out not to be a problem. 4 cats and they have not moved the bowl an inch.

After setting up the product, I stood back to view it. It looked very cool sitting there, sleek and durable in a farm equipment kind of way, extremely impenetrable by even the most intelligent, willful kitties.

It worked perfectly the first time, only an hour after I'd set it up. And it has worked perfectly since, feeding my cats three times per day right on the money.

I spent the first few days watching the cats feed, making sure everyone was getting enough food and tweaking the feeder so that I could cut back to the least amount possible in order to control their weight. I have a kitten that needs more food, so I just pulled her aside every day or so and gave her an extra helping or two of wet food. Eventually I will purchase another of these Super Feeders so that the cats can eat more comfortably, but for now they don't seem to have a problem taking turns at the bowl.

Overall this is a very neat product, especially for those of you who are even the slightest bit handy and more interested in controlling some of the functionality yourself. With two of these daisy chained together on the same timer, the feed times would be exact in both bowls. I've read reviews where folks have purchased 2 cheaper feeders, and after awhile the feeding times between the two bowls become staggered because the internal clocks of the devices are off by a few seconds. Over time this could result in you fixing the clocks every few weeks or so. Not with the Super Feeder. Also, because of the way this device is constructed, cats will not be able to get food out of the hopper prematurely, another problem that was iterated by those who'd purchased the one piece or cheaper feeders. The Super Feeder is basically strapped into the base by a metal brace, and the top of the hopper is tight and can also be screwed in place! Where the device feeds, the cats cannot get their paws inside, and even if they do there is an additional piece you can purchase separately that will keep them from getting to the mouth of the feeder. I have not had a single problem with this and have not had to purchase the additional piece.

The affects of having the Super Feeder were not fully felt until a week or so after using the product. No longer do I have to worry about making it home to feed the cats on time, or working out a schedule with my girlfriend on who will feed mornings, who will feed nights, etc. The cats NO LONGER beg me for food in the morning. No more pawing at the bedroom door or crying incessantly while they run between my legs as I stumble, half awake, into the kitchen to get them food. Everyone involved is much happier, especially the kitties!

In just about every sense this automatic cat feeder is a Godsend. I recommend anyone who has cats and values their supreme health and wellbeing to order this product. A+ all the way.

Best cat feeder yet

This feeder rocks. It's extremely reliable, well built, and very versatile.

I've tried a couple of other feeders in the past with limited success. This one is the best though.

In fact I liked it enough that when I got a second cat I also bought a second Super Feeder. (One cat is on "Senior" food and the other eats kitten food.)

Great product, great service

I bought two of these and have them connected to a single timer so they feed simultaneously. That way, I can feed my two cats different amounts of food at the same time. Here are the best things about this product:

1. Increased flexibility in life. No more having to run home to feed the cats at awkward times.
2. No more begging for food. My cats have stopped begging me for food entirely. It has brought peace into the house.
3. This brand of cat feeder is great because you can precisely adjust how much food is distributed, and how frequently it disperses. Many other cat feeders only distribute in 1/4 c increments. With this feeder, my precise control of teh food disbursement means it's easier to maintain healthy cat weights.
4. AMAZING customer service. One of my cats, after about 2 months, figured out how to get some niblets out by hooking his teeth under the food chute, lifting it, and releasing. Thwack-ping! This was a problem. I e-mailed the owner, Gerard, who got back to me promptly, and gave me a solution to the thwack-ping problem that's worked! (Cut off the ends of the chutes by 5/16" so it no longer extends past the face of the feeder. This way he can't grab it.) Furthermore, they expect to be using input to change the chute design for cat feeders in the future to prevent this problem. These are responsive and proactive business owners who genuinely care about providing a quality product!
5. FYI, with my Science Diet hairball control light cat food, I cannot have the chute covers installed, because the food is too big, and gets clogged. However, I have not needed them. So if you have this kind of food, don't bother buying the chute covers.

Bottom line: I HIGHLY recommend this product.

Works well - with the right food

My overweight cat was on a diet and was becoming very demanding and obsessive about asking us to be fed. So we thought we would try an automatic feeder to see if it could break this cycle by giving her more frequent feedings and having her no longer think of us as a food source. In the end, it worked and we are happy with our purchase.

The feeder is a bit difficult to set up but it was much easier than I feared because it turned out that a mount was not needed. Our cat isn't one of the "criminal masterminds" discussed in other reviews who try to attack the feeder to get extra food. We were able to simply snap the pieces of the feeder together and set it on a book placed next to her bowl. We used none of the screws or mounting brackets included in the package, nor any additional hardware.

Because our cat is on a diet, we needed the feeder to dispense a precisely measured amount of food. This was more difficult than I had hoped. Even after much experimentation with the various settings on the feeder and exchanging emails with the manufacturer, I was unable to get it to dispense food with the accuracy my cat needed (she is a very small cat and daily variations of even 0.1 oz would be too much). Sometimes just a few kibbles would come out, sometimes it would "hit the jackpot" like a slot machine and spill out several times as much. The variation was so wide that it didn't average out, even over a dozen feedings. It seems that the variation was caused by the shape of the food we were using: flattened oblong pellets that were different sizes in each dimension. If the kibbles happened to line up so their longest side was crossing the dispensing mechanism, they wouldn't fit through easily and very little came out. If they happened to line up with their smallest side facing the rollers, then would spill out too freely. There was no way to control which would happen. So we shopped around for a food that had regularly shaped pellets. The first we found was "Sensible Choice" brand and it worked great in the feeder (the kibbles are almost perfect little spheres). Now the feeder dispenses very precisely measured amounts and everything is going smoothly.

As others have mentioned, the feeder does seem to be well constructed and has a minimum of electronics and moving parts that could break. Once settling on the correct food, after more than a month of use we have had only one problem: it isn't easy to know if the feeder has become unplugged. It has no light or other indicator to show it is "on". Once after refilling the feeder, I didn't push the power plug completely back in. And it was only after some serious complaints from our cat that we realized what had happened.
