This was a great purchase

I bought this smoker for my husband for christmas, He asked for a propane smoker but because this is his first smoker, I thought he should start with charcoal. I made a great choice! Not only does my husband love this smoker but he uses it at least twice a week. He smokes for me & all his friends. This was worth every penny I spent. We love it, Thanks for a great product....I would recomend this to anyone!

I've put it through the ringer and it's holding up well

I am not a pro, but I have about 7 yrs experience smoking at home.

My first smoker was the basic Brinkmann, they generate pretty amazing results for being so simple.

I upgraded to this smoker about 4 yrs ago.

It is reasonably well made (nothing has broken off). I have little or no rust - I spray with vegetable oil 1-2x per year and pretty much leave it uncovered in the back yard - we get a lot of rain and snow here in the Northeast, no problem.

This smoker is able to go for a long time. Keeping the dampers open to 10-15% means you can smoke for 6 hrs or more. Temps are stable.

Full access to all 3 shelves is priceless. You can easily check on the progress and remove items as they come up to temperature. This thing can swallow a LOT of meat.

The racks and water pans are decent but not stellar quality. I have replaced the racks once, they are reasonably priced but take a while to arrive.

The charcoal pan is not the greatest, but a $4 circular wire cooling rack raises the charcoal up 1 inch off the bottom and allows air circulation and gives a spot for the ashes to fall.

I have always used quality lump charcoal (available at many grocery stores, or Depot or Walmart in the summer season). Briquettes are mostly inert and only meant for cooking burgers and steaks. Find decent hardwood charcoal and chunks of clean hardwood and you'll be in for a treat.

It's not perfect but it has served me well for a long time, and the 16 guys that I smoke for at the baseball and footbal fantasy drafts certainly dig the ribs, brisket, sausage and chicken this thing cranks out.

Stop thinking about it and do it. It's easy.

Good food, better price.

I ordered this smoker not too long ago and have used it a few times since i recieved it. it only took about a week to get here and set up took about an hour. obviousely this rig isnt for a professional, but if you are an amature into good smoked meats and BBQ this is definately for you. i only have two noteworthy complaints, but they are outweighed by the good.

1. Since the smoker is made of a rather thin metal it doesnt hold the heat in very well. you can get an insulator cover for it, but i just refresh my coals every 2.5 hours or so.
2. the charcoal pan eventually smothers the fire because it doesnt allow air to circulate under the coals. this is easily fixed by buying a grate to put over the pan and piling the coals on the grate. buying the grate is the inconvenience. also, a charcoal chimney might be a good buy too.

other than those two things, i would recomend this to anyone who likes quality home smoked meats.

Great Outdoors

I got my smoker about a month ago and so far, I like it a lot. It isn't exactly set up as shown in the picture, but it is really similar. The water pan is a little smaller and the shelves are in different positions. I did have to add an extra grate to the charcoal box to keep the fuel off of the botom of the box, but that was a quick easy fix. So far, so good.
