These Good Grips 12" Locking Tongs are brushed stainless steel with non-slip handles and comfortable thumb rests. Simply push the soft tab at the top of the Tongs to open them, and pull the tab to lock the Tongs closed for convenient storage. The length of these Tongs makes them perfect for barbecue.

Getting the Drawer Open

The coolest thing about these tongs is the locking bit. Now I can put my tongs in a drawer next to the stove and still get the drawer open.

In the old days, if the tongs got put in the drawer, they'd magically open up during the night waiting for the next time I urgently needed to open that drawer to get a knife... or some tongs. This usually occurred when the bacon had begun to burn. Yanking on the end of the drawer with the fire alarm screaming and my bacon turning to ash is not the best way to start my morning. It leads to expletives and bent tongs.

The tongs locker is the answer. These actually belong to my son, but I'm hiding them when he gets his own house.

best tongs I've owned, and I've owned several. Might consider the nylon tippped ones as the non-stick pans scratch pretty easily.

Good Grips have a good grip

My husband says these tongs are the best we have. He is pretty hard on tongs due to all the grilling he does. He grills pork loin roasts (each roast is a quarter of a loin, so 2-3 lb ea) and needs something reliable for picking them up and turning them over.

Very good medium-length set of tongs

A 12" set of tongs like these cover 90% of your needs, unless you grill a lot, perhaps, or cook regularly with unusually large frying pans, braziers, or stockpots. I like the Oxo tongs quite a bit, which is saying a lot, as I don't think highly of the brand generally. These have a good feel to them, the rubber grip surface is effective for non-slip purposes as well as heat insulation, and the the locking mechanism makes it particularly easy to accommodate in kitchen drawers, the dishwasher, or a utensil pot. The ends have a useful bend to them that makes picking up food items easy. I wish the stainless were just a bit heavier-gauge, but in practice, I haven't had any bending problems.

Again, good for 90% of normal kitchen needs. A longer set of tongs is probably a better choice for grilling, but even there, these are fine for the odd item or so.

after two years...

i love OXO and my tongs are like an extension of my hands in the kitchen. i use them for everything.

for a company that exceeds every expectation i could have in the hand-held kitchen gadget market, there is one nit that needs to be picked with these tongs: the silicon rubber grips do not stay in the holes created for them and while it is not a show stopper (you won't burn yourself or drop anything as a result) it provides moments of frustration, particularly if you rely on them when you are in production mode.

also, the little thingy at the top that locks the tongs in place and then releases them bends after a while.

i have had my tongs for two years as of this writing and they will be with me for the foreseeable future, but it is worth noting the small design inconsistencies for those who would otherwise take it for granted that all OXO products perform superlatively. these tongs are good, but not great.

worth noting that my OXO tongs never go into a dishwasher and hang from a hook over my workspace (never banging around in a drawer), so i would say that they have been pampered when they are not being abused. hand wash only.
