From the supplier: A surge of immigrants continue to stream through America's doors, changing the population of the United States dramatically. These new citizens use the libraries and hope to see themselves in some of the books there. In an informal survey of a local library, children's picture books published in 1997 and reviewed by four major journals were studied to see what faces were reflected in them. Of the 216 books, 86 showed all white characters. Another 30 books showed white main characters, but other another ethnic group somewhere in the story. Another 42 books depicted animals. Only 21 picture books showed a diverse world.
