A cat who turns into a young woman (Carice van Houten as 'Minoes'), retains some of her feline characteristics and helps a journalist (Theo Maassen as 'Tibbe') to gather news for the frontpage of a local newspaper. With the help of Minoes, who can talk to the cats in the small town, he soon discovers that the helpful and popular chairman of the "Club For Friends of Animals" and boss of a nearby factory has evil plans with the village.

Perfect adaptation of a classic Dutch children's novel

This is a must-see for all lovers of children's literature & film and should be added to all cat-lovers' lists. The adaptation of the Dutch children's classic by Annie M.G. Schmidt, the creator of Jip and Janeke (pronounced yip and yAn-uh-kuh), is both stunning and creative. Minoes (pronounced Mee-nOOse) is played brilliantly by Clarice van Houten, who studied with a dancer to immitate closely the movements of cats. The story is as enchanting as all of Annie Schmidt's work, and will mesmerize children and adults of all ages. My two and a half year old can't get enough of the talking cats, and I was transported back into a childhood state of awe the first time I saw it on an intercontinental KLM flight! This is a classic film not to be missed.

cutest lil movie ever with talking cats!

I saw the movie as part of a Family Films series at the Seattle International Film Festival several years ago and fell in love with it. I have been looking for a copy with English dubs or subtitles ever since! Looks like somebody in Canada has finally released it and I couldn't be more pleased. If you are a fan of the film 'Amelie,' - as I am, I can't imagine you not liking this one. Such an inventive plot with great acting from both the humans and the cats, and a great movie for kids as well.

Entertaining dutch comedy

A very entertaining dutch comedy, based on a very popular children's book I haven't read. A cat turns into a woman after coming across some chemical stuff spilled from a barrel. She finds herself transformed into a woman on the rooftops of her small town. Eventually, she takes refuge in the apartment of a struggling but honest reporter, and through her ability to communicate with her fellow cats, she helps him expose a case of local corruption (a scoop that saves him from being fired from his newspaper). This movie wouldn't work as well as it does without the charming Carice Van Houten performance as the titular woman/cat. Theo Massen's performance as the shy reporter is also great.
