Blue loves going to school! She loves painting time, reading time, and lunchtime. But sometimes Blue has to face some tough situations at school. Preschoolers get to help their favorite puppy figure out solutions to some of her problems in this interactive story.

A great gift idea

I got a number of these books for my 4-year old nephew for his birthday, and he has absolutely loved reading them.

Good introduction to entering school

This book would be appropriate for children entering preschool or kindergarten. It introduces some of the basic elements of a day at school. It's a nice reading companion to the Blues Clues DVD/video "Blue Takes You to School"

Blue Goes to School

Blue loves going to school, but sometimes she has to face some tough situations. In Blue Goes to School, the book follows Blue as she enters Miss Marigold's class, tries to find her cubbyhole, and performs a variety of tasks throughout the day.

This book teachers thinking skills for pre-schoolers as well as manners. For example, Blue is painting a picture of her house and she needs purple for the door. However, Purple Kangaroo has used all the purple paint. Blue then thinks up a strategy of how to make purple paint (as opposed to throwing a tantrum like some kids would.)

Another example is Green Puppy taking Blue's spot on the reading rug. Blue debates whether she should make Green Puppy move out of her spot or whether she should pick somewhere else to sit today. (Of course, she picks the latter!)

Young homeschoolers may a bit confused as to why they don't go to a "regular" school like the characters in the story, but overall, this is a nice book introducing children to the concept of school and polite social interactions.

Cute and trite

This is a cute story and the illustrations are great. As usual, the photographic "cut-outs" of Joe or Steve (sorry, I don't remember who's in this one) always look a little out of place, like those live action scenes of Mary Poppins. But kids won't notice. For us, Blues is a far second to Buzz, but he can't read Buzz stories ALL the time and this one teaches some valuable concepts.

A Day at Blue's School

Blue Goes to School" lets us take a look a look at the things Blue does during her school day with her friends Magenta, Green Puppy, Orange Kitten and Purple Kangaroo. It's not her first time, there, the characters are obviously all settled in and know each other. The teacher is Mrs. Marigold, who directs the classes to their various activities, but otherwise lets the class be reasonably free-form.

Throughout the school day, Blue has to deal with a number of situations. We help her to find her cubbyhole (which is labeled with her picture), to paint a picture (more basic color-mixing teaching) and to choose what to do when somebody's sitting in her favorite spot.

Another wonderful "Blue's Clues" reading experience. I felt that the "Blue Takes You to School" TV episode was a bit too rushed, but this story was nice. One of the highlights of the book was the "A Puppy's Day" story, featuring a retelling of a game of Blue's Clues Oh, and watch for the three hidden snails in this book --- I believe this is the first one they show up in.

The opening note for this book says that they wanted "to use Blue as a model for how a preschooler might, stop, think and act in a tough situation." It "focuses on "preschool pro-social situations."
