When you just really need to have a great cry over a predictable sap story

The famous Orient Express takes travellers from Paris to Budapest and back. British aristocrat Alex and American college student Lilly meet when he approaches her with the line, "Some very heavy ready for a long trip". Before they know it they are swept up in a romance in Paris during the summer. But of course, the formula dictates that Alex's father must intervene and break up the pair. One day Lilly goes out for the day only to return to an empty apartment. Alex was too afraid to say anything - especially mention his "arranged marriage of sorts" back in London.
And of course, our fair heroine, is not only alone but she's pregnant when she returns to America.

The mysterious train only brings Alex and Lilly back together 13 years later. Lilly is in Europe for her job assignment as an editor in New York. Alex has somehow tracked her down now that he is free of his father and divorced from his ex-wife. He then proceeds to use the same line all over again on a much older, much wiser Lilly.

Although the romance simmers, Lilly has Alex believing that she is married and has young daughter with her husband. When Alex walks off the train in Vienna to meet his father he runs into Lilly's travelling partner (Jackie) who reveals she is buying a birthday present for a 12-year-old. Not knowing that Alex and Lilly are parents together ... Jackie casually mentions that the gift is for Lilly's daughter just before the train begins moving away from the station.

Alex rents a car and drives all night to Paris in time to meet Lilly and see her daughter. The final scene is actually touching despite all the drama and formula.

One of the best love stories ever!

This movie took me 10 years to find. I sawit as a teenager and loved it. This story makes you feel happy, sad and full of hope that if you haven't found love you will. No matter what and how much time, love see's through it all. The actors in this movie make you feel what they feel. You understand what both are going through and how much love they have for one another. It's a tear-jerker for sure!

Bittersweet!! Yet beautifull.

Cheryl Ladd and Stuart Wilson are so believable as lovers who seemed to have been seperated by fate, and then are given a second chance if only they could be honest with each other. I hope they rerelease this movie I love watching it on a rainy afternoon. If you want to watch a movie that convince you that love it worth fighting for get this movie.

Romance on the Orient Express

A chick flick, except that Cheryl Ladd is gorgeous (which may appeal to men). If you've ever had bad luck in your love life, you'll certainly identify with this movie and may even enjoy it. Alex is a handsome but silly college boy who falls head-over-heels for the lovely and intelligent (and equally young) Lily (played by Cheryl Ladd) while they're travelling on a train in southern France. A romance ensues that promises to be everything any woman could wish for. Unbeknownst to Lily, Alex is already engaged and is unable to back out of that commitment. He disappears, leaving her bewildered, humiliated and pregnant. Years later, on another train trip through France, they meet again. Only this time she's not likely to fall for his charms...or is she? Cheryl's acting is not the greatest at times, but the storyline is quite believable to any woman who has fallen in love with the wrong man. It's comforting to see that romance isn't so easy for the very beautiful among us either...too bad it's fiction.

Bittersweet love story for the romantic at heart.

It has been some time since I've seen this movie -- I was disappointed to find it unavailable. As I recall, the chemistry between Cheryl Ladd and Stuart Wilson made the story believable. Today Wilson seems to prefer to play the villain, but he does have some appeal as a leading man. The movie captured the essence of bittersweet romance. It's pleasant to think there might be a second chance for lovers who screwed up the first time around -- even if it only happens in the movies. Romance on the Orient Express is the perfect movie for a rainy Saturday afternoon.
