Lily Yu is a relatively young homicide detective and the case she's currently working on has clear evidence that a werewolf committed the murder. And it's just her luck that a few blocks down the street is a club with a well known reputation for werewolf employees and customers. There she meets Rule Turner. The heir apparent to the Nikolai clan. He becomes the obvious suspect considering he's dating the dead man's wife. But from the first, Lily has some doubts on that but no clear evidence. And to make matters more difficult, something's happening to her that has a lot to do with Rule. An attraction that goes beyond her reason, no matter how hard she tries to deny it.
As they dig deeper, they discover that the murder may be covering something bigger than either one of them could have imagined that involves not only them, but family and friends.
This books is fast paced and leaves a lot of room for questions by the time you finish it. But the story is so good you don't mind. It'll be the waiting that kills you. The second one in the series doesn't come out till May of 2005.
Just a note, this is actually a longer and slightly different version of Eileen Wilk's novella "Only Human".
