Catches more moths than anything else

This Dynatrap insect trapper certainly catches a LOT of insects. But 80% of them are moths with the balance comprised of a wide assortment of other insects. This thing doesn't target mosquitoes specifically - more like a driftnet that kills everything.

The UV lights started failing after about 3 months of operation, so I've already had to order replacement bulbs. I don't know if the UV lights somehow combine carbon in the air with the TiO2 coating on the funnel to emit CO2 or not (the literature makes a big deal about the titanium oxide coating but never says anything about exactly what it does), but with so many moths being caught, the scales on their wings get smeared all over the white coating where they get sucked in by the fan. I'm guessing that this is reducing the effectiveness of whatever reaction occurs between the white coating and the UV lights - if there IS any reaction.

My guess is that this thing is no more effective, or selective, than any ordinary bug zapper. Just more expensive.

Simply a case of sounds to good to be true (eliminating mosquitos without spending $400+ for a LP gas unit). You'll notice the product states it is an "insect eliminator" not a mosquito eliminator. I got the device, plugged it in and left it running all night. The next morning I had a hard time picking out 1 dead mosquito from the pile of moths and beetles in the trap. After about 2 weeks of nighttime use I noticed that the bulbs started pulsating for no reason then died the next day even though they are listed as working for 3000 hours. If you've got a serious moth issue then this is your solution. But if you're dealing with mosquitos then keep looking elsewhere
