Taking back your time!
The
Paradox
of
Choice
...
Although there are not exactly ground shaking revelations contained in this book, there are some very eye opening moments to make you go "Hmmmm".
While we in America are living in the wealthiest, most physically comfortable time in history, anxiety, and depression are on the rise. In this study Barry Swartz, suggest that the myriad of choices that we have to make today may be a big part of the reason. Like the old "Devo" song said, "What you have is freedom of choice, what you need is freedom from choice".
Every day we are bombarded with consumer, moral, ethical, religious, health, family etc. choices and necessary decisions that a generation and a half ago, were simply not necessary.
Swartz puts forward the idea, that we can take back control of the choices that we must make, gives some strategies on minimizing the time spent making choices, as well as insight into
why
we choose the way we do and why it makes us unhappy.
On the whole I highly recommend this book (especially to HR managers, and Marketing managers, and those in Sales, or Service) for all those who would like to take back some of their time.

Why Doesn't the Lexus Complete You?
If you've ever bought something to keep up with the "Joneses," then this book is for you. Schwartz has a unique argument--that having
more
choice
is making us
less
happy--and provides many examples to prove his points. Overall, it is an entertaining and enlightening read. Unlike authors who write on similar topics, Schwartz provides a clear and detailed set of solutions. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that it seemed a little repetitive to me at the beginning. If you read a lot of books on consumerism in America, you might feel the same way, but it is still worth a read all the way through for the unique ideas in the final half of the book.

Good job
The book was in excellent shape and came relatively on time. No problems with the transaction.

Good premise
I was excited to read this book. It proffered a view that I had never even before considered, and the author's arguments make sense. However, the author's writing was considerably
less
exciting than it should have been considering how good the topic was. It was a little on the dry side, and sometimes repetitive. I would still recommend it, however, because it is thought provoking.
