The Spice Must Flow
Dune
DVD
Dune is based on Frank Herbert's Science Fiction Classic by that name. Dune was an allegory for the Arab Oil embargo. If you substitute the House of Saud for the House Harkonnen you get a pretty good fit.
Anyhow Dune revolves around the flow of "Spice". It is full of action and evil villains. It is a movie that you'll want to watch over and over again. It is too bad that Hollywood hasn't seen fit to make a sequel or two which follow Herbert's books.
Highly recommended for fans of Science Fiction and Frank Herbert.

There is more to the extended version than rumor...
Every once in a while, the Disney channel has aired the version of
Dune
that is over 3 hours in length and it fills in some story line gaps very nicely. I am surprised it is disowned by De Laurentis considering how many cult fans would buy it. I know I am not the only one out there who has as many different versions of the Dune releases as I do of the Star Wars ones. The very
extended
version has a long opening that gives background on the Spacing Guild, the Bene Jeseret (sp), and even the 2 houses of Harkonnen and Atreides as well as the Emperor and spice itself. It may seem unnecessary for the average movie watcher to have this much detail but have them try reading the book and if they are not used to deep science fiction, they will be more lost than watching the movie either extended or shortened. David Lynch knows what there is in the "vault" which is why he distanced himself from this release and not the standard DVD release with the 2:57 time run version. This film seems to have the same problem as Blade Runner and the Highlander movies. Lucas may have done justice to the original Episodes with the CG add ins, debatably but even with Empire, he could not add much to a near perfect film (except for a few light saber improvements and window scenes in Bespin). I will enjoy this HD DVD version of Dune as I have the others I own but still know there is more footage available that has been aired and for some political reason, at best, our De Laurentis friends reserve it. The family is famous for some great flicks including the Conan movies as well as some more recent attempts at good movie making.

Buena, pero demasiado
La version larga es definitivamente mejor y mucho más clara, como pelicula es buena pero corta mucha de la trama original del libro y cambia el final! la recomiendo solo para los que nos maravillamos con los libros de la serie de
DUNE
hmmmmm
Better than the version released in the theaters, but still leaving a lot to be desired. The retro style technology was far too blatant and did not really reflect what the book was trying to impart to the reader.
