I'm actually... pleased!
I've taken
Linksys
to task on the 54GS series in other reviews, and I did not think highly of their install software for the WUSB11 either. So, when I needed a laptop card to connect to my home network, I bought the
WPC54GS
expecting some installation challenges... and didn't have any.
I mean, I had absolutely no problems with the installer this time around. Linksys puts "Run CD First" stickers on the card, on the CD, all over the box. So I ran the CD first. It installed all of the software, exited. Then nothing, as in, "what next?" I inserted the card, and several Microsoft digital signature warnings later, my card found my access point.
I had to log into my router from another machine to add the laptop's MAC, then key-in the password on the laptop for access to the router... and that was it. A fully encrypted connection, pretty fast from what I can tell, and no drops. I don't get the 125% speeds I should be getting (my other
wireless
link is the internal PCI card, and it goes 108Mbps almost always), but I'm satisfied.
One star withheld for the lack of Speedboosting, but the improved installer and sticker madness made me feel better about Linksys gear.

Well it'll go up the pole but I wouldn't salute it.
It's okay after you get thru the awkward set up, I mean I followed the directions and ran the CD first. Using windows XP Pro and all updates to present. Rebooted and it looked like it was going to be a grand day, the monitor program that had been installed reported fantastic 125% speed (whatever that means) with my system sitting 9ft from my wrt54gs v2 then things got unstable and I had to drop the system and flush all references to
linksys
and funksoftware as well as odyssey off my system using add/remove, norton, regedit etc (several hours)okay here we go again. insert card with system running. asked for driver and directed windows to the linksys cd. 3 drivers found, 1 oem linksys, 1 cisco-linksys (TOTALLY DID NOT WORK ON MY SONY VAIO) and 1more linksys which finally flew. Security set up offers all sorts of options I chose WEP and MAC and the result was a fantastic increase in speed, almost like a wired 10/100.I'd like some more updated software for XP use since all I can tell now is that I have excellent signal/connection and 54 speed but where is the speed-booster part? Yes all devices are set to G-only and are "Speed-Booster" by Linksys. I also have been an avid Firefox user with Sun Java. USE EXPLORER at Linksysfix sites like check, easy etc. I have used Norton internet link speed utility but I'm not sure of the accuracy.

Very pleased with the wireless performance
I use
Linksys
WPC54GS
in my
notebook
to connect to my WRT54GS router with very good results. It stays connected all the time in the
Speedbooster
mode. Although the signal strength is not always at the fullest but it never loses a connection. I haven't tried to explore the range of the
wireless
connection but I don't have a problem staying connected within the boundary of my house and lot.
Setup was a breeze. I installed the software, keyed in the security settings from my router, plugged in the
adapter
and bingo, the notebook was online!
