Cute but predictable :->
When this first came out, I watched it so often. It's still a good movie although obviously outdated in more ways than
one
.
Terry Griffith wants to be taken seriously as a reporter, but feels that she is held back because she is a girl. What does she do? She transfers schools and dresses like a guy to write the ultimate story. Of course, she already had a boyfriend, but he's a bit of a jerk and she finds herself falling for her best male friend who doesn't know her secret. There are no surprises in this movie - it's very predictable, but it's still funny and fun to watch. Her brother Buddy is hilarious and he has the quote of the whole movie. When Terry asks him if he is OK, he sadly replies, "No I'm not ok. Mom and Dad come home Monday. I've had two weeks of total freedom. The closest I've come to sex was a girl who took her top off to seduce my sister". It's a classic movie that will make you laugh and is thoroughly enjoyable.

Good 80's flick
This is a great movie but I read
one
reviewer mentioning Joyce Hyser (terry) being 18. She was born in 1957 making her 28 when she played the role and her 'college' boyfriend was 30. A good movie with some good lines but being 10 years older then most of the high school crowd must have been kind of a laugh on the set.
Amusing flashback
This was
one
of my favorite movies when it came out but, from past experience with watching movies from the 80s now, I was a little cautious about buying this one. When it came down to $9.99, I decided that was cheap enough to risk on a movie that may not be as good as I remembered. There were some definite "bad 80s teen movie" moments, but overall it makes for an entertaining movie.
A recent review said that her original article was on being a female disguised as a male jock. It was actually about the nutrition of school lunches. Her article about being a female disguised as a male (but not a jock) was written after her experiences of passing as a teen male, which she did because she was convinced her article was rejected because she was female. Following the formula, there are some embarrassing moments and she learns a lot about herself in the process. The movie is fairly predictable...not annoyingly so, but more like the predictability of an old friend.
While this is nowhere near award-winning anything, it is a fun movie to watch.

Now, Joyce, put those helmets down...
Teen reporter, feeling dismissed by her journalism teacher because of her gender, disguises herself as a boy to write an undercover piece. Along the way falls in love with her new best friend. Joyce Hyser is totally unbelievable as a man. but she does give us the obligatory tatas shot at the end. And prances around in her undies in the opening credits. And isn't that what 80's teen comedies were all about? Yes indeed ;) JOOTG is an OK, if marginal, example of the genre. You won't feel like you wasted 90 minutes when it's over. Legendary jazz/break artist Tom Scott did the score? Wow. No extras besides the trailer. Print looks nice, but it's another fullscreen rushjob from a studio who couldn't care less about putting quality into their products. Mild recommend.

LITTLE KNOWN TEEN MOVIE 4 STARS NEEDS BETTER DVD TREATMENT 2 STARS = 3 STARS
This is
one
of the better teen comedies from the 80's. The movie deserves 4 stars, but the fullscreen release makes me give it 3 stars. Joyce Hyser gives an excellent performance in this funny Toosie reversal "Teen High School" flick. The entire cast is very good with many familar faces from the times. Hopefully someone will do this film
