KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment

I highly recommend this product. It grinds much better than expected and has yielded great hamburgers and a great meatloaf. I have only tried grinding meat thus far, but the product can grind other foods like bread, cheese, etc.
If you want to be able to grind your own meat, so that you know exactly what is in your burgers, then this grinder is for you.
The price is also reasonable.

Meat Everywhere!

I just got my grinder attachment and used it to grind up about 3 1/2 pounds of chuck roast. I cut the meat in small pieces and put them in partially frozen. It worked as expected, but it's incrediby messy. Blood and bits of meat were everywhere. Drops of blood and fat were shooting out onto me, the counter, my kids, the floor. I solved this by turning the mixer sideways ( I had been standing in front of it and I'm not very tall) and taping a paper towel to the front of the food tray so it would hang down in front of where the meat comes out and act as a kind of mud flap. I only had to take the grinder assembly off once to clean it, which is pretty good considering some of the reviews on this site.
All in all, it was more work than I thought it would be and it took longer, but I guess it did what it was supposed to do.

Best Valuable

Bought this product to make sausage. I made 36 pounds of breakfast sausage the first time with no issues. It worked great but make sure you use small peices of meat when using this attachment.

Chicken is hard to do

Tried the grinder on chicken breasts still slightly frozen. In order to feed into the grinder, you need to have precut the meat into long slices a few inches wide. When the meat was soft enough to cut, I cut it and fed it into the grinder. Tissue from the chicken blocked the plates with holes on it, preventing chicken from coming out, and attempts to push it through with the food poker resulted in back spray of raw chicken juice on me, clothes, cabinets, counter, etc. It took a very long time to grind the two breasts; I probably could have diced them by hand in a fraction of the time. Next time I will try to cut the chicken into slices first, then freeze it, then feed it through well frozen. Wish me luck.
