Honestly, this was really their better album.
It was around 2003 that I became a major Linkin Park fan, and it was because of people overbashing them on a message board. I decide to really see if they were worth the hate. After downloading a couple of their songs, I decided 2 years later to buy
Meteora
.
First off, I don't conisder Linkin Park to be metal. I just see them as a hard rock band. Metal would be something like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Dragonforce, Dream Theater, you know... What I like about LP is how they take elements of hard rock, rap, and electronica, and blend it together to form a new music. My only flaw though is that they could sing about different things instead of just angst.
Second off, the band isn't emo. IMO, it's just that a lot emo kids listen to LP. But emo kids aren't the only ones though who listen to this. Emo would be something like Hawthorne Heights and some of those pop punk bands.
Anyways, here's my review on the songs:
1 - Foreword" - N/A, it's just an intro for the next song
2 - Don't Stay - 9.5/10, decent song to start off with. It has a nice hip-hopish beat to it as well and really should be remixed.
3 - Somewhere I Belong - 9/10, good
4 - Lying from You - 9.3/10, despite some screaming, Shinoda does well with the rap and I like that instrument in the beginning too.
5 - Hit the Floor - 2/10, easily my least favorite from the album
6 - Easier to Run - 9.7/10, I don't see why people try to compare this to Crawling (which I found to be over-rated). There isn't really blaring vocals like in Crawling...it's just a simple song which I found to come out much better than Crawling
7 - Faint - 9.2/10, I like the beat to the song, but a little too much yelling, especially during the bridge. Face it, you ain't beating Disturbed's Down With The Sickness for the best yelling sequence ever.
8 - Figure.09 - 9.5/10, once again another song that stands out
9 - Breaking the Habit - 10/10, one of my 3 favorite songs from the album. No rap, no blasting/distorting guitars, none of it at all. Chester actually sings quite well in this song. Oh, and it's probably about drug addiction...
10 - From the Inside" - 10/10, this song grew on me due to the music video that came with it. Something different here as the song is set to a triple meter. Some yelling may hurt some listeners though.
11 - Nobody's Listening" - 5.5/10, eh creativity was there, but it just wasn't that interesting...maybe should have made it longer and improved the chrous a little bit.
12 - Session - 6/10, well, it's weaker than Cure for the Itch
13 - Numb - 10/10, easily my favorite from this album.
Linkin Park may not be for everyone but it's quite ignorant to hate a band just because they are on MTV. I never bothered much with MTV after they stopped showing music. Sometimes, the good music will be on the radio. Other times, you'll have to go underground. Meteora IMO is Linkin Park's crowning achievement, and I was able to absorb all the songs in just a couple of sittings unlike their first album which took a while. If you are looking for pure metal, stay back from this album or you'll be dissapointed. If you enjoy alternative rock and don't mind rap, take this album.

Linkin Park's Meteora
I first bought this album with many doubts. I thought this album was going to totally suck because of what I had heard about it. I had originally only bought this for Somewhere I Belong, Faint, Numb, and Breaking The Habit. The first time I listened to the album I hated it, I thought it was horrible!
After a while I decided the album decided a second listen, I mean I had only listened to it once. The second time I listened to it, I fell in love with it! I absolutely love this whole album. I tell you this album is a must have for all Linkin Park fans.

Like singing or rapping?
If you havent noticed, there is a singer and a rapper in linkin park. If you like the songs when there's more singing than rapping, get this. It's great and is alot soft-rock[ier] than hybrid theory.
How I want to massively bring the hate upon this album
...but I can't. At least, not entirely. "Faint," "Breaking the Habit," and "Numb" in particular just sound too good.
One-note lyrical concept? Check. With these guys, it's always That Darn Girl's fault that the singer is (or at least poses as) inclined toward various degrees of violence against someone or another. Usually himself. I don't believe it for a moment, but what the heck. As gimmicks go, I guess they could have done worse.
Once you learn to go with the ridiculous lyrical flow, let's face it: the guitars sound really f*in good. Heaven knows enough money was thrown at them. Relax, disengage your mind as best you can, and let the angst wash over.
