Toddy

This coffee maker is great! I have no complaints. I tried to use a makeshift toddy system and once I gave up and bought this coffee maker I fell in love with the simplicity of it. I would recommend this to anyone who loves cold brew coffee. I usually buy coffee beans from my local coffee store and mix half a lb. with 8 cups of water and it works perfect! they sell replacement filters but the two that come with the system hold up really well and I cannot see myself buying more for a while. The decantor comes with a nice air tight top and the whole thing takes up about a milk cartons worth of space in the fridge. hope this helps

Great coffee!

This unit cold-brews a non-acidic cup of coffee that one can tailor to their own strength by dilution. Several folks I know have returned to coffee drinking after not being able to drink drip-brewed or French press coffee. Get interested in coffee again as a "sweet" beverage with this device.

I love the Toddy!

I have been cold brewing coffee for a year or so, and the filtering is such a hassle. The Toddy makes the process so much easier. It's very easy to use and clean.

I read the reviews here, and was concerned about the filter clogging. Taking various reviewers' advice, I used 2 1/4 C water, then 1 1/2 C coffee, then 2 1/4 C water, then 1 1/2 C coffee, then 2 1/2 C water, (7 C water and 3 C coffee total), and the filter had no clogging issues at all. The coffee just poured out and was done inside 5 minutes. So much easier than what I had been doing before.

And the coffee is superb. Big thumbs up from me!

Evangelizing for Cold Brew

I love my Toddy! I've been using it for three weeks. I've had iced coffee every day, and I've only made coffee twice! No more $2.50 Dunkin Donuts cups (where they never give me enough skim milk). I do miss my coffee cart guy, but some relationships have to die for others to grow, you know? I get my coffee before I leave the house, which makes me happy. We have a dearth of outlets in my apartment, so I wouldn't want an automatic drip maker anyway, even if it wasn't for the heat and the icky taste of cold coffee that's been hot brewed.

The Toddy is so easy to use. I'm really confused by the people who can't figure it out. Takes about 10 minutes to get it set up, then about 40 minutes to drain the next morning. And then you have two weeks worth of coffee! (Or one week for big coffee drinkers.) I just have one 12 oz cup of iced every morning. No longer do I have to send the hubby out on weekend mornings when we'd both rather laze around in our pajamas. I am in iced coffee heaven. And I just get Dunkin hazelnut for $9 a pound and I'm set. In the grocery store, a 12 oz bag of Folgers hazelnut is only $5, and it's just as good. But I like using the pound better, as you make coffee less often.

To break it down, I had 20 cups of coffee out of a $9 bag of grounds. Milk cost me about $3 overall. That's $12. If I had bought this coffee at DD, it would have been about $40 (for the 12 oz), and it would have been $25 from the coffee cart. Since I usually did half and half, that's $32.50, making my overall savings $20.50 over two weeks. So, by the end of next week, my Toddy will have paid for itself.

Oh, and my stomach also reacts much more kindly to this coffee. No more finishing off a cup and bolting to the ladies room. It also tastes much smoother than other coffees. I can't stand the burnt, acidic taste of Starbucks. But that could taste the same in a Toddy; it may just be the beans. I won't be testing it.

If you like iced coffee, this is a great product. I can't be bothered to buy cheesecloth and set up my own at-home system. If you hate DIY, this is a great product. If you are drinking hot and already have a drip coffee maker, and don't get a grumbly tummy from your coffee, this may not be for you. You might spend more on coffee. If this concerns you, stick to your coffee maker. But I'm saving money and having happy coffee moments in the morning, so it works for me!

Good coffee, kind of a hassle and expensive

Makes good coffee, but I think I could make something for much less that works just as well. The filter included clogs very easily. It takes 1 pound of coffee to make 1 decanter and I still mix it about 50/50.
The coffee is much smoother and lower in acidity, but I think some people will miss the bitterness and acid that is usually assocaited with coffee.
