Mole People
The book
Mole
People
is a non fiction story about the
New
York
underground homeless by Jennifer Toth. This book is a riveting story about the every day struggles of the New York homeless both above ground and below it. It talks about the social systems that are formed underground in the abandon subways and man made tunnel that lead off from the subways. The writer was a reporter for a newspaper and picked up on the activities that go on
beneath
the busy New York streets. The book has interviews with some of the homeless that live underground which are called, Mole people by the homeless above the ground. The homeless that live above ground believe that they are of higher social states and are safer then the homeless that live below ground. While the underground homeless believe that they are better off. This book informed me of the living conditions and hardships that the homeless face in a way that you can project every imago very effortlessly. I recommend this book to any one interested in the homeless, underground civilizations, or the social environment that people reside in.

Mole People
I have owned this book in hardbound for a number of years. I pick it up from time to time to refresh my memory. It amazes me that
people
have opted to drop out and live in the
tunnels
around Grand Central Station, the subways, etc. Fascinating reading.
If we were there........
I have read the book twice... Which is unusual for me. I found this book amazing........ To Jennifer Toth I wish you my best and enjoyed this book beyond words. I also wish that I could take the next trip with you. I dont think that any one will ever know the things you saw until they strike that journey.

Fun read but sloppy
This was a good read with interesting dialogues but the history and research don't seem to be all that thorough. Anyone living in Manhattan will probably notice some inaccuracies. But if you're just interested in human stories you should probably go for it.
