"Be the change, start w/yourself"
The gift for you here is that: You will WANT to aspire to a higher standard!
"The fact is, all
leader
ship begins with self-mastery. You
can
't lead others until you can first lead yourself."
"To truly lead, and
make
a
difference
in the world, you must always start with yourself." -excerpts from the book.
This small book is full of 'gems' that will make you sparkle! Besides the good advice on leadership,(aka: "The six Principals of Leadership) it's just good advice on
how
to live. Maybe you're not interested in being a leader, that's okay, you will improve your life by reading and applying the inspirational wisdom presented here!
This book is short (102 pages) and cuts straight to the point.
"Great leaders are not evaluated on the length at which they speak, but on the impact of the message." And- "People who act effectively as leaders boil down the details. The make the world easy for others to understand."
Great Book!

Simple Yet Powerful
I became a Sanborn fan after reading the Fred Factor so I had to pick-up this book simply to see if he could go 2-for-2. You Don't
Need
a
Title
to Be a
Leader
is different from the FF, Sanborn manages to tie together great leadership tips with great stories to reinforce key points.
It is a relatively quick read...I started midway through a cross-country flight and finished just before landing, but that does not diminish the quality or importance of the message he conveys. Admittedly I have read many titles on leadership and leadership development so I don't feel he broke new ground here, but despite that fact he managed to put it into a much more simple context which in turn should
make
it easier to remember and put into practice on a daily basis.
Overall, another great additon to my leadership library and a must read for
anyone
who wants to gain some additional insight into what it takes to be a great leader, at any level.

Leadership is Born Out of Character
Mark Sanborn has delivered a simple, transforming message that is applicable to all facets of life regardless of age, rank,
title
, or position. The principles of self-mastery, focus, power with people, persuasive communication, execution, and giving are not strategies to be selfishly employed but character traits that come from within. These principles are similar to things you would teach your kids. Sanborn tell us that true
leader
ship is "an invitation to greatness that we extend to others." He later shares that giving, service, and humility are the marks of genuine leadership. This book is not for those looking for a slick new way to win friends and influence others. Instead, Mark Sanborn paints a succinct picture of a leader who understands that life is not all about themselves and that authentic leadership is born out of character.
Thank you, Mark, for another great work.

I reckon it is better to watch the author's video seminar, High Impact Leadership
Many years ago, I watched Mark Sanborn's three-volume video seminar en
title
d 'High Impact
Leader
ship'. In the video seminar, the author explains very eloquently the signifi
can
t
difference
s between a manager & a leader. He shares what motivates a leader &
how
he projects personal power. Plus, he relates how a leader sell his vision & ideas to the people around him. I enjoyed the seminar very much. In fact, I have assimilated & internalised many of his principles in my own personal leadership.
I recently read the author's latest book. Somehow, I get this funny feeling - the book is a broad & loose transcript version of the video seminar, but it does not do justice to the author, especially when I compare it to the video seminar.
Six principal strands pertaining to high impact leadership characteristics are covered in the book, as follows:
- The Power of Self Mastery;
- The Power of Focus;
- The Power with People;
- The Power of Persuasive Communications;
- The Power of Execution;
- The Power of Giving;
In the video seminar, I could discern some twenty four characteristics of high impact leaders. One of the vital characteristics is the Power of Anticipation, which is not captured in the book.
I reckon it is better to watch the author's video seminar in order to capture the full flavour of high impact leadership, as originally envisioned by the author, who is dedicated to developing leaders in business & in life.

A very good, but not great leadership book
I loved the premise of this book, that "you don't
need
a
title
to be a
leader
". I also liked the brevity of the book; no wasted words here. The author supports his core message with relevant and credible anecdotes, and builds a case for leadership that is self-initiated and genuine. All this in a book that reads in an hour or less.
I did not give it the full five stars,
how
ever, because I felt it was not organized in a way that made its key points memorable. My experience with leadership books is that while they do not usually convey any new information about leadership (the knowledge of which goes back centuries), they
can
nevertheless be useful if they inspire and/or provide an easy to remember framework for the reader to reference going forward. I felt that this book was a little lacking in these areas.
