Ain't no smelly cheese

I am 14 years old and I absolutely loved this book. It was really confusing at first, but once you brought yourself into the poor boys life, you couldn't put it down. Robert Cormier, is a totally different type of writer who wants you to think and challenge all the standard writing styles.

I'm sorry the reviewer who gave this a "1" star didn't understand this book, but I, too, was compelled to read this as part of our reading list when I was in middle school, but my reaction was very different. To this day (and I am in my 30's now), I remember this book. At the time, I was just fully caught up in the narrative. And as a youth who was struggling with my identity in a racially unmixed neighborhood, it struck many chords with me. To be honest, the book almost reads like you are on this long, strange dream, not knowing exactly what's happening, but then it all crashes together at the end, like someone has thrown a bucket of icewater on you. a memorable read.

A winner w/my teen son

Chose this for my 14-yr-old son because he has enjoyed S E Hinton novels in past & this seemed also to deal w/teen peer pressure, threat of violence, strong ethical message w/o being corny at all. Learned that my sis (a hi-sch speced teacher & admin) keeps this in her classroom as it entices even those w/serious reading difficulty. My son was engrossed & enjoyed it.
