Best children's books Ever!

Either you like them or you hate them. Well my 3rd grader and I love them! When she was in kindergarten I read all the books to her and we both laughed until our bellies hurt. After I read all the books to her whe wanted me to read all the books again, but when I refused she started to read them herself. I think it was a great motivation for her to learn to read! Then she read all the books over and over, at least three times each. She visited the Junie B. Jones website and did all the games there. I had to make her a JBJ costume, (JBJ is captain field day) and she wore it on two halloweens. We never spoke about bad language used in the books or the bad behavior and my daughter still gets all Execelents for behavior in school, has a 100 for overall reading and a 98 for overall writing. So I see nothing bad, like some other reviewers do. We hope Barbara Park will write more JBJs books!!!

Junie B. brings reality home.

My daughter has become addicted to Junie B in the past year. Barbara Park captures a typical kindergardner / 1st grader so humorously and realistically. Sure she speaks in slang, but it doesn't mean you have to read it that way....sure she uses words we might not condone, but it brings opportunity for learning and discussion that may not otherwise come around. Most importantly, she gets kids to READ and LOVE IT. The wording and sentence structure are great and my daughter UNDERSTANDS what she is reading, not just saying words she recognizes. If you don't like Junie B., fine, but don't knock it for those who haven't formed their own INDEPENDANT opinion. I hope Barbara Park continutes to follow Junie B. into 2nd, 3rd, 4th and beyond. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hooked on books

This was great!! My daughter absolutely loves these books. She is only 8 yrs old, but will sit for hours reading them. How many kids ask for books for Christmas!!

Hilarious!

I bought this for my friend's daughter, but my daughter has many Junie B. Jones books and loves them. We read them aloud as a family some evenings and have a good laugh!

Good children's LITERATURE

Adults must have a sense of humor, fun and literary merit to fully appreciate Park's Junie B books and, thereby, understand their resonance with children.

The Junie B series consists of comedic morality tales. They follow an effective formula yielding a predictable but, on the other hand, accessible narrative arc. Junie B is presented with an issue; responds inappropriately; discovers, with guidance from adults in her life, the error of her ways; gains perspective; and comes to understand the proper way to deal with the issue.

Park's creation draws laughter, astonishment and sympathy because Junie B is a genuine, not ideal, child presented with emotional and ethical challenges that are very real for children her age. In her protagonist, Park effectively blends the traits of impropriety, immaturity, insecurity and innocence. Children can easily identify with Junie B. As a result, the Junie B stories are morality tales that resonate strongly with young readers.

In response to customer reviews and comments charging Park with robbing children of good grammar and conduct. You could not be more off the mark.
