A great quick-read.
I just finished this one- it was a really quick read. It is the
true
story
and letters of
two
college
friends
one is in the Peace Corp in Africa, the other living in NYC. It is a very good idea- the letters back and forth, you slowly learn about the characters.. the girl in the Peace Corp gives a really detailed description of some of the heinous stuff she encounters in Kenya. They have nothing- the school she teaches at beats the kids, etc. the New Yorker is always moaning about this guy or that guy and she Buys, yes BUYS an apartment in Manhattan- so as you can see I had a lot less sympathy for this one. In all though, a good story, I like the "voyeuristic quality" of the letters. If you like this you may want to check out the Griffin & Sabine books.

I really enjoyed this book. At first glance, you wouldn't think a book based on letters written between
two
friends
would be any good, but it really, truly was. Kate and Hilary were so very different from each other, but the contrast is what made this book worth reading. I recommend
DEAR
EXILE
to everyone, especially to those who don't have time to read a full-length novel. It was very short, very sweet, and so very, very, very enjoyable.
Captivating!
My best friend sent me this book soon after I left Japan to move to England. When I picked it up and started reading it I couldn't put it down. The letters are realistic, witty, and intelligent. What a great idea from such an ancient art...letter writing! I highly recommend this to anyone who has or has had, which we all have, a best friend. It is light reading and will only take a short time to complete. Definately a must read!!

Simply Wonderful
This charming, funny book had me laughing, crying and wishing I knew these
two
wonderful women. This is not to be missed.
Lovely contrast in the Path of Life!
I loved
Dear
Exile
because it reminded me of the "old-fashioned" Victorian days when
friends
wrote letters to each other.I wish I could have seen their handwriting - yes, even in these computer days! I was sorry to finish the book because I wish Kate had spent longer in Kenya and, having lived in Kenya myself, it was depressing to hear how hard it is for Kenya children to get an education. All in all it was still a funny, wonderful book.
