Hilariously Macabre"

Loved this book even more than the 1st. Does not follow the series on TV, but it is very entertaining if you love the idea of a serial killer only killing people who truly deserve it, which I do. The author somehow tells of very gruesome murders with a sense of humor. Well worth your time and money.

A Great Follow-Up

The Dexter series of books is improving with each new novel. This one is a definite improvement and continuation of the first, but still hasn't found it's true stride yet since it's only the second book in the series.

For fans of Dexter, this novel won't be as much about the adventure with the "doctor" (a fascinating, albeit one-dimensional antagonist), but about the little events at Rita's.

The plot here, unlike with the first book/season, has not been used in the Showtime show for season two. This is a totally different direction for the characters. While books and tv/movies can never co-exist perfectly, I think both have done a great job with the characters and taking them downt their separate paths. So don't pick this book up expecting to know what is going to happen if you have kept up with the Showtime series.

Overall, a great guilty-pleasure read and a lot of fun. Not a literary masterpiece (although the author's use of wit and onomonopeia are great), still worth reading, and a must for anyone who has shown the least amount of interest in the Dexter character.

I felt this book was a little bit of letdown after Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I think the author took a little too much time making sure someone who hadn't read the first installment didn't lose their way not enough time furthering the story.

Worth buying used

Worth getting half priced for a quick summer read. Lot of potential, but the conclusion reminded me of writing college papers and getting so sick of the subject that I chopped the ending awkwardly short.
Still, a fun read for a lawn chair day.
