Awesome!!! ... as expected!
I bought Philadelphia Chickens a while back
and
ADORED it. LOVE LOVE LOVE this one too. Boynton (with Ford)writes the most clever and catchy "children's" music I've ever heard. What a great way for little ones to enjoy
rock
/pop/bluesy music without exposing them to raunchy lyrics. It's so fun, so family-friendly...and yet, so GENUINE. It's actual MUSIC! And you will actually WANT to listen!
A blast of a book and CD!
I originally got this for my older sister for Christmas due to the title (she's becoming a dog
train
er),
and
couldn't resist listening to it myself (thus breaking the seal on the enclosed CD in the
book
) once I saw the lyrics and illustrations. For a "li'l kids' book", the writing is definitely engaging enough for even "vintage kids" as the back of the book touts, and the music
ROCK
S. Very catchy; those sort of "stick in your head" songs you can't forget, and a great cast of artists, including Weird Al Yankovic and Kate Winslet in "their first duet together" (well, yeah ::grin::), Steve Lawrence and Edie Gormet, Hootie and the Blowfish, and others. There had to be something be
side
s money to get all those folks together, and I think it was this: they had fun. So will you.
(I finally put the CD back in, taped up the broken seal, and sent the whole shebang off to my sister, thinking I'd never get the chance to hear it again, and got one for Christmas myself. Karma works!)

Dog Train
A super fun
book
and
CD for kids of all ages. Songs from artists you know and fun/ silly lyrics you can listen to with your kids. A very sweet book I have purchased for all the 5/6/7 year olds I know!
Great Album for Kids of All Ages
Good gad, there really *is* a kid's album that's worth listening to!! This probably almost appeals more to me (age 39) than my daughter (16 1/2 mos.) but I expect she'll grow into it. I find I listen to this even when she's not in the car with me. I love Kate Winslet & Weird Al in "I Need a Nap"
and
the driving force of "Dog
Train
" is a lot of fun. And who can resist "Mootopia" or "Thus Quacked Zarathustra"?? Toss the Wiggles, put this in your cart instead!!

good, but a little less than what i expected
the cd does have some catchy songs that my son really loves but a lot of them are kind of boring. the tantrum song is great
and
should be every toddler's anthem.
i'm one of those parents who can't stand to listen to the annoying barney-type songs over and over and won't even allow it into my house. i think kids music can be fun and enjoyable for both kids and parents. this cd is definitely not annoying but again, i get bored with it, as does my toddler. however, he likes to play the first 7 or so songs over and over. he espcially likes the tantrum song and dog
train
because he likes dogs...and trains...
the
book
is cute, too, but the song lyrics don't transfer over very well to stories. you know when you read lyrics to songs and it just sounds unnatural? the same goes for this book. my son does like me to read it to him but i feel weird and awkward and miss the creative rhymieness of boynton's other books.
oh well. so, buy it or don't. i wouldn't pay full price for it, though. find it on sale or get it on amazon where it's cheaper than at a bookstore.
