Fantastic.....
I really enjoyed this
book
tremendously! I normally dont read from the romance genre but there were such great reviews about this book I decided to give it a try. I really enjoyed the character Bones (even though the name reminded me a bit to much of what Agent Booth calls Dr. Brennen in Bones). I don't imagine vampires being that sappy, but its fantasy here and I loved it. Being the skeptic I am, I kept waiting for him to double cross he just as much as she did.
One thing I really disliked about the book too is her mother. If she were real I would walk up to her and smack her across her face for the way she treats her daughter. But I guess that is what the author was going for.
Anyway, I think this book was really well written. The scenes between Cat and Bones have a great sexual charge that kept me reading well past my bedtime! And I LOVE the way he called her Kitten, I can just hear his accent in my head.
This book is defiantly something I would recommend to others who enjoy a little fantasy with their romance.

The Beginning of a New Addiction - Cat and Bones
Other reviewers have summarized the story so I won't rehash the plot. The blub on the front of the
book
says, "Cat will have you staked in 5 seconds flat." I was definitely staked in the first pages. I love these characters! Bones is now one of my favorite alpha male vampire heros. Cat is unique and a great new addition to strong females in the genre. The book is labeled PNR, not UF. I think it is definitely more PNR. All of the characters, the good, the bad and the ugly have surprising depth, I don't know why a review I read before purchasing said otherwise. Glad I ignored it and went with the vast majority of reviews. Humor, action, mystery, sex, love, betrayal and a sterling cast of characters, really well written characters. I just lost a series by J.R. Ward, gladly tossed it in the trash bin of "What was she thinking". I am so delighted to have been led to this series! Jeaniene Frost is now on my "Pre Order" list with Alex Ivy, Lara Adrian, Jacki Frank and Christine Feehan. "THE" best "goes with the story" book cover I've ever seen.

Enchanting Reviews: Halfway To The Grave
HALFWAY
TO THE
GRAVE
JEANIENE FROST
Rating: 5 Enchantments
Catherine `Cat' Crawfield is one unique individual. Half-vampire, she's taken it upon herself to rid the world of the worst of her vampire kind, and if she happens to come across and destroy her father in the meantime, so much the better. It's a job she's been very successful at - that is, until she meets Bones, the sexy vampire. Not that she'd ever like or trust a vampire, but Bones proposes a deal that just might work to her advantage.
A vampire bounty hunter, Bones is determined to extinguish the worst of the vampires who prey upon the innocent. When he stumbles across Cat, he realizes he might be able to make use of her to draw out the worst of the worst. In exchange, he'll train her to be the best slayer he can make her and possibly help track down her father.
Witty, fun, yet with a dark edge, HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE is an addictive, page turning paranormal read. The chemistry between Cat and Bones is obvious almost from the get-go when they meet. I loved the fighting scene between the two early on in the
book
, which is so vivid the characters practically leap off the page. Cat is a very feisty heroine and Bones certainly measures up well against her.
With an ending that will leave readers anxious for the next in the series, Ms. Frost's "A
Night
Huntress
" series starts off with a bang. I look forward to reading what is in store for Cat and Bones.

"I'm not afraid of the grave; I was born half in it."
Until recently, I have always ignored Amazon's "recommended for you" section. Then one day I decided to scan the pages and see what other urban fantasy and vampire
book
s are out there. I picked this one randomly and did I just enjoy it!
Catherine Crawfield grew up with special abilities that always made her feel like an outsider. The fact that she was strangely pale didn't help matters. Resigned to being friendless, it wasn't until she was sixteen when her mother told her about her father. It turned out that Cat was a half-blooded freak... at least that's how she thought of herself after finding out that her father was a vampire who raped her mother. At sixteen, she staked her first vampire. From then on, she's been known by the townspeople as the creepy girl who liked to wander around at strange hours. If only they knew that she was out there saving the world! Then one
night
, she was abducted by a Master vampire. Now Bones was a bounty hunter who has been chasing another Master vampire for eleven years. Realising the gift that has landed in his lap, he coerced Cat into working with him. In exchange for sparing her life, Bones became Cat's trainer and a deadly partnership begun.
Admittedly, I couldn't get into the story initially. It wasn't until Bones took Cat to her first assignment that I started to get involved. After all, how often do you read about a perverted ghost who tried to get to third base? And that was just the start of it. I was drawn into Cat's world and found myself getting attached to the characters. I liked how the author slowly developed Cat's character from someone who was afraid to come to terms with herself, someone who felt compelled to punish herself for her father's sins and atone by killing vampires to please her mother. And the sad truth was, for someone who took joy in killing vampires, Cat was very much afraid of her mother. With Bones' help, we gradually see her grow a backbone where her mother was concerned and finally embrace her bloodline. And beware any vampire who crosses her especially when teamed with the sexy Bones. One half-dead, and the other totally dead, together they make a dangerous duo.
HALFWAY
TO THE
GRAVE
is just a juicy beginning to a series that is sure to delight urban fantasy lovers. Jeaniene Frost serves a tasty treat with just the right amount of blood and gore, humor, romance and a bit of paranormal magic. I cannot wait to get my hands on One Foot in the Grave (Night
Huntress
, Book 2).

Cat in a Hot Skin Spoof
Fun meter rating: 3 stars. The main story line was worth 4 stars; the writing (and editing) was worth 4 stars; the unbelievability of too many events made it worth 2 stars at best.
MINOR SPOILERS: We have our heroine spend hundreds of pages demonstrating her inexperience with the real world; then in the space of a few pages she becomes super wise and take-charge. The ending was too rushed - I sensed the "Oops, I've about reached my page limit and I've got to end this and get in the set-up for the sequel so I'll just have to rush." Then the whole ending was so flaming unreal I had a hard time reading it for my laughing. END OF SPOILER.
