What I've Been Saying All Along

When publishing my own book, I heard repeatedly that young African-Americans do not read but I think that's a lie. If more books came out that they could relate to, especially for boys, then the percentage of readers would change.
When I initially got this book, I looked at how it was written and became concerned about the style. Everything is all dialogue--and as much as I like dialogue, I thought maybe the author was pushing it too much. Wrong! I realized quickly that if the dialogue is informative enough, it will make a reader feel like they're being told the story in a conversational manner...and in a different manner at that.
This book was outstanding. I love realistic views of how teenagers REALLY act, feel, talk, and relate to other peers. Ofcourse not every teenager runs into a drunk driving issue, a suicidal peer, or parent abandonment...but even those who don't can probably relate to this book. Draper did not ONLY concentrate on a boy's feelings after his friend died in his car, but also on the relationship between young lovers, parenthood, a teacher/coach relationship with his/her students, and how peer pressure affects students in general. I am so impressed and definitely glad that Amazon.com recommended this book to me. Great job, Sharon! Absolutely great job!

This book was great

my review is about 5 highschool basketball players. Driving home from a party after winning a game half drunk get into a horible accident and one of their friends life is ended everything just gets worse. The drivers best friend is dead and and he blames himself for everything. While being in the doldrums he thinks that the only solution is killing himself now the question is can his friends talk him out of it.

I recommend this book because it is full of suspense and i promise you once you pick this book up you won't be able to put it down, this is one book you won't wanna stop reading until your at the end.

this was the beast book that you can ever see and i think that people of all ages should read and i gaurantee they will enjoy it

Tears of my own :(

The book is about a boy name Andy Jackson who is on a basketball team. Then one night he has just won a big game so him and his friends decided they should celebrate. Andy and his friends started drinking and Andy got behind the wheel and he ended up killing his best friend and the captain of the basketball team Robbie. Ever since the death of Rob Andy hasn't been the same. So one day he couldn't get enough of the guilt and decided to take his life.
Sharon M. Draper is the greatest well-known writer that I know. I love his style of writing and how she brings her characters to live.

In one moment, your life could be ruined forever!

Robert Washington, Andy Jackson, B.J Carson, and Tyrone Mills are best friends. Robert is the all-star for the Hazelwood High basketball team, and after their victory, they all went for a ride with some alcohol with them. Andy was driving, and all of a sudden he crashed into a wall. Everyone was all right besides Robert. Robert had died of a horrible and painful way, and everybody was missing him, especially Andy.
Andy has a girlfriend by the name of Keisha, and B.J also has a girlfriend by the name of Rhonda. Andy has to go to a psychiatrist to help his depression. Keisha tries helping Andy as much as possible, but Andy always seems to break apart with sudden crying spells. Andy is a really good basketball player, but his grades have dropped rapidly ever since Rob's death and all the teachers are complaining and saying that he needs help.
Andy's brother, Monty, keeps him some company at night, but Andy keeps having bad dreams, and horrible flashbacks of Robert's death. No matter what anybody does to help Andy, he keeps blaming himself.
Will somebody help Andy with his problems, or will he have to go the hard way out?
I really liked how each character expressed their own feelings throughout the book with journal entries and letters. I also liked the good imagery that this book shares with its readers. Some things that I disliked were how some parts were confusing with all the characters, but if you read carefully, it won't be a problem. I also didn't like how the book seemed like it was repeating itself with the way Andy felt.
I would recommend this book to either a boy or a girl since there are both boy and girl characters in the book. I would also recommend that children (or adults) above the age of twelve should be able to read this book, but I'm sure anyone will enjoy it!
