Lots of bang for the buck

I hesitated about buying such a "fat" TV, but my current Sony HDTV sat on a shelf on my wall entertainment center and that shelf had plenty of room to accomodate this one without a problem, and the screen ended up being the same distance from the wall as before. At about 75 pounds, this 61" set was only about 10 pounds more than the 40" Sony that it moved into another room.

A little research and I learned that there were wall mounts made for it, should I ever decide to move it to another location in the future that required a wall mount.

I love this TV! Now all other 52" and smaller TV's look like postage stamps! The sound matches my "V" series Sony, but I have a nice Onkyo 7.1 hooked up for when I want more audio, I just haven't needed to use it yet. I mainly just watch football and other over the air programs.

Tracking the shipping was a bit of a pain, I didn't receive the confirmation notice, so I ended up calling the shipping company (after a bit of deciphering) to learn that it would be delivered by another shipper. I called them and was finally given a firm shipping date (a few days later than earlier estimates) with a 9:00 to 1:00 time window.

Fortunately, I had the day after Thanksgiving off, so was able to wait around for the 12:20 delivery. The driver and I carried the TV into the house, removed the box and set it on the shelf. We picked up the packaging debris and he hauled it away.

Easy set up, lighted remote, good picture, great value!

Our new 61" Samsung DLP is a winner!

We replaced an older Samsung 50" color wheel DLP (still in perfect working condition!) with the new 61" LED-light projection model and have been extremely happy with this unit. The picture is incredibly sharp and the colors extremely vibrant. The 1920X1200 display is about as good as it gets for home theater technology. The unit is very easy to set up and Samsung offers myriad connectivity options for both analog and digital inputs. Blu-Ray DVD's really pop, and are the next best thing to being in the theater! White Glove delivery was a breeze. Dollar for dollar, it's an unbelievably good buy for a large screen format, so buy it while it's still available. You won't be sorry.

Great picture, great value!

Since there's no shortage of gushing already for this superb tv I'll just add a couple recent personal observations:

Value - you just can't beat the price for the screen size, no way! And now I see Amazon has it for even a little less now than I paid 2 weeks ago (12/1/08). BTW I got my free white glove shipping from CEVA just fine, 8 days after placing order. They have a website with tracking, and they called to schedule delivery, and made the delivery on the day I preferred, not Wednesday as they wanted. So I am happy with CEVA, especially for free!

Picture - after getting the Comcast HD STB, etc, all hooked up we watched HD for the 1st time, up close and personal. WOW!!! Now I see what all the hype has been about. With the surround sound from our home audio system it really is like being in the theatre! The naysayers are slayed. BTW, because screen glare was an issue for us, we ruled out plasmas early on. That turns out to have been a good choice. Also, after very carefully considering which screen size to buy, we are glad to find that 61" is the right size for our home. We are 11' from the tv. Be careful before getting the 67" or larger...

One complaint - It seems that the tv is not set up to receive Dolby Digital. This is not a big deal, just a minor (and the only) disappointment. The "srs true surround sound" isn't a DD clone as I had assumed. I will get around it as recommended by running R/W rca line to the dvi audio in and switching the hdmi in to #3.

So all in all, we are Very Happy with this tv, and it's display technology and performance. There is no need to spend well over $3000 for a large flat panel tv.

for home theater only

I almost bought this TV sight unseen just based on the positive reviews. Don't get me wrong - this is a great TV, but I think it's only good for setting up a home theater. If you are replacing the TV in your family room, you will not enjoy the poor off-angle viewing performance. You basically need to be sitting right in front of the TV to see a good picture. If you are more than 45 deg off to the side, or standing up, or laying on the floor, then the image is dark. I suppose this is true of all projection type TV's.

If I was setting up a home theater, I would buy this TV and have no regrets. But I want a little more functionality. I often sit an extreme angles to the TV while on the computer, as well as watching while standing or walking around. Now I have to start over looking at smaller LCD units, or maybe plasma. When I read somewhere that projection TV's were a dying breed I didn't believe it. But now that I've really experienced them, with the thought of actually buying one, I believe it.

I'll still give it 4-stars, just taking away 1-star because it is a projection TV.

5 star tv, but 1 star amazon

great product but i continued to get scr-ewed by amazon. the price keeps dropping and they apparently had a 30 day money match program, but now they dont. Of course they dont advertise this as much as they like to advertise all their great benefits of buying from them. Same thing with their digital books. they advertise you can read them online but dont tell you that its limited how many times you do this. With this kind of shadiness no wonder their stock price has dropped 50 percent.
