ta Time. High Horse...all of it... Some great work here. Rolling Stone bashed it, sounds like there listening'ta too much Radiohead. But, yeah, Dig Out
Your
Soul
, brothers and sisters, is where it's at. It's rock and roll. It's groovin'. It's Oasis..buy the record.
Dig Out Your Soul - Great!
This is the first album for me by Oasis, although I have read some ab
out
them recently. I love this album. It has great layering, melodies, harmonies, great bass and guitar work. I have played this over and over since buying it a few days ago. It has a sense of The Beatles underlying the music, and perhaps that is one reason I like it. However I think they are distinct and creative and certainly not a "cover". I like all the songs, but if I had to choose would choose my favorites as those written by Noel. I especially like the songs The Turning and The Shocks of the Lightning. I feel happy when listening to this music and I want to get up and dance; I can't sit still. This music speaks to my
soul
and I like the title of the album because this evokes something in me.

I dig this one a lot
Deep into their musical careers, the Gallagher brothers and their cohorts continue to release some of the best rock `n' roll around, the last hard men of a dying breed of true rock stars. Far from just disposable pop musicians, Oasis songs have evolved into more complex, sometimes messy numbers that often involve atmospherics, at times experimentation and a more shared aura that reflects the songwriting vision of the entire group. "Dig
Out
Your
Soul
" is, surprisingly, one of the best, most heartfelt efforts ever from Oasis, an amazing thing to admit given the quality of this band's past stellar work.
Instead of dickering around with a left-field choice for a radio single, the guys smartly released the incredible "The Shock of the Lightning," a tune that encompasses everything great about Oasis. The tune is a driving, catchy hard-rocker where Liam sounds in top form and a steady organ tunefully and deftly balances out the hail of noise. At one point, Zak Starkey's rip-roaring drums receive the limelight alongside the mesmerizing, droning organ, and it almost seems like Oasis have reinvented themselves in one fell swoop.
Interestingly, along with the plethora of chunky guitar riffs, Liam's somewhat less cloying vocals and Noel's stately guitar solos, the drum work on "Dig Out Your Soul" is some of the most prominent-in-the-mix and impressive I've ever heard from Oasis. Additionally, there's some well-placed piano and keyboard work on tunes like "The Turning" and "Soldier On" that give the band a depth of maturity and musical craftsmanship it may not always get credit for.
Two of the Noel-sung songs are, as is often the case, swanky bar-room stompers that perfectly fit his old soul, while "Falling Down" is a beautiful track that perfectly complements his voice. And brother Liam continues to evolve into an equally good songwriter himself, adept at writing airy, head-in-the-cloud ballads ("I'm Outta Time"), raw rockers in the vain of Stone Temple Pilots ("Ain't Got Nothin'") and echo-filled, philosophical closers ("Soldier On"). What's surprising is the phenomenal contributions from Oasis's other half, Gem and Andy Bell. With its cool Middle Eastern flair, Gem's "To Be Where There's Life" is one of the smoothest, most soulful and dance-worthy tracks ever released by Oasis, while Bell's "The Nature of Reality" offers an irresistibly dirty riff and stop-start formula that grows on you.
If there's a reason I'm not giving this CD a five-star rating, I can't quite figure out what it is. Surprisingly, it may be two of the tracks that Noel sings on which feel a bit clunky to me ("Waiting for the Rapture" and "(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady"), but that's nitpicking. The bottom line is that this is the best new rock `n' roll CD I've heard in quite some time, and if you dig Oasis, then it's time to "Dig Out Your Soul."

Good, but not great from Oasis
I love, and will always love Oasis's first 2 albums.. they are both in my top favorite albums of all time, and I also love the B-sides they were yanking
out
at the time.. Oasis at the top of their game, and the main reason why those 2 albums were so great was because Noel Gallagher and Comp. were out to be the "Greatest band ever", they were pompous, arrogant, and would not give anyone more respect than they gave themselves.. and you could hear it through the music. Every song on the first 2 albums were what made me love music, I would listen to as many bands possible, Learned how to play guitar, Start a band.. I was inspired, Oasis's music was not near complicating or as Interesting as say Radiohead, but it was music for my
soul
, it made me happy, I wanted to walk down the sidewalk of a busy street and not move for anybody (Richard Ashcroft style) and singing "In the sun SHIEEENEEEE" as loud as I could. It was the music I played to feel happy if I was feeling down. Heck, I even loved Be here now, though not as much as the first 2 albums, but I would play that cd til it would not play no more. Sadly though Oasis made Standing on the shoulders of Giants.. and I asked myself "Where did it all go wrong?".
That album, it did not sound like Oasis to me, it sounded souless, Heartless, and it sounded like the biggest band in the world just settling for Mediocrity... and I was right, the album after that one.. Heathen Chemistry, did not do anything for me either.. I gave it a spin, and did not listen to it much afterwards. Although DBTT was better, it still felt like Oasis were half-assing, some of the songs on that album sounded great, like The Importance of being idle, Turn up the sun and Let there be love, and I thought maybe Oasis had something left in them that they can give to the world, maybe they founded that Bravado that has since been long missing, and it is shoot and miss with the new album, Dig out
your
soul.
The First half the this record sounded very promising, I thought Bag it up was a very different approach for Oasis, different chord changes than the usual Oasis song, not the typical song structure, and Liams voice sounded much better than on DBTT, although it did not have any of the pomp of Oasis, its a good song, but does not sound like someone who once said (Noel Gallagher) that " If your a band and not trying to be bigger than the Beatles, than it is just a hobby". Second track "The Turning" sounded like something Oasis would never make, the Low E string tuned to D? never thought Oasis would ever do that, but they do, and the chorus sounds better than anything Oasis have done in a long while, its very intense and rousing, although it sounds like a Doors songs in some stretches. Waiting for the Rapture is good, but a forgetful dud, even though Noels voice sounds better than it ever has on a lackluster Melody.
The Shock of the Lightning is easily my favorite song on the album, it captures the old form of Oasis.. which can not be said for any song since the Old Oasis practically, its got a great chorus ( A major to A minor.. never thought that would work without sounding Monotonous lol)
and its easily the high point for me on this album. I'm outta time sounds like a Lennon rip-off of all sorts, its a Liam tune, and you can tell Liam Gallagher now not only thinks he is the Reincarnation of Lennon, but may actually think that he is John Lennon, and that he survived that horrific shooting. Still its passable and that is when the album goes downhill. Get off your high horse lady sounds like one of Oasis's worst songs ever.. I could not listen to the entire song through, and I still can't. Falling down sounds actually pretty good, its got a beat that sounds almost exactly like Beatles " Tomorrow never knows" with a delicate melody, and some very shoegazing lyrics.
The last 4 songs on the album are bad, and its pretty obvious because Noel did not write any of them, the entire album sounds like Oasis's version of the White Album, Oasis sounds like they are out of original ideas and its sad because I will always have a thing for Oasis, mainly the first 2 albums and B-sides, but I just don't think they are anywhere near The Beatles league, at one point they did though, because I believe Oasis's first 2 albums were much better than The Beatles first 2, but if you compare The Beatles albums with Oasis's... there is no comparison that The Beatles were better.. still, this album has some shining moments, I would recomand just downloading the first 5 songs, plus "Falling down" and see what you think, don't bother listening to the entire album, because in my opinion you will be dissapointed.
I would give it 2 stars, but I can't Dig my soul enough to give it that little. Oasis sound like they are not trying to make music that makes you feel like your top of the world like they used too, but instead, they sound like a band that is trying to compete with the bands that were inspired by Oasis.. and failing even at that.

Oasis Dig Out Your Soul
As a longtime fan of Oasis since the first album I agree that they have lost something since there prime 94-97 the first 3 albums Be Here Now being there last great album ,the albums after that had a few decent songs the same goes for this album Bag It Up,The Shock Of The Lightning,Falling Down and I'm
Out
ta Of Time are great songs that I hear on my ipod all the time Shock Of The Lightning has a great drum solo and guitar solo one of Noels best Falling Down is a good song also Bag It Up has Liams best singing, the other songs are alright but there is not a catchy hook in any of the rest, the worst of these tunes is Waiting For The Rapture the doors sounding song, Noel has wasted some of his best songs on bsides he should of used some of them to make this album stronger, also Liam's voice is not the same anymore his voice is not as strong I have seen some live shows and he can't sing like he used too.he's good on this album though .I would recommend this album to only hardcore fans who have to have every oasis album like me.the 4 great songs are worth a 3 star rating.
