Another Masterpiece
It took me a while to like Because of the Times. In fact I had to see KOL live in Birmingham last year to really give it a shot. Since it was so different from Youth and Young Manhood - my favorite album EVER! But the more I heard it the more it stuck to me. That's why when I got

for my birthday, I decided I wouldn't judge it on the first listen. Though I'd heard Sex on Fire and Use Somebody on SNL, so that was out, I already liked the record. Having listened to it about a thousand times the past two weeks, I must say there are songs in there that give me goosebumps, not least of which Cold Dessert, which has such power and passion. The first time I blasted Use Somebody on the stereo I cried. Therefore, I must say this is KOL's most emotional work yet, which for some bands might mean sappy Air Supply crap, but not the Followills, whom I would consider incapable of bad music - at least we could hope.

GREAT
This is my first "Kings of Leon" cd, but it won't be my last.
Some screaming guitars and cool rocking songs.
love it!!!
Can't stop playing this CD while I'm driving in my car......especially love the 3rd song.
take it for what it is
This is a very good album. It's not Because of the Times in quality or in sound, but it is still a very good album that is getting way too many negative reviews for having a new sound.

is a lot tamer than anything Kings of Leon have put out in the past. It seems like after Because of the Times became a big hit, they decided to keep things safe, and make an album that has more mass appeal. That being said, they pulled it off very well. This album is catchy, has some pretty good lyrics, some decent music behind it, and one of the coolest album covers that I've ever seen.
It has its moments, but falls too hard in between those moments. There's also just not enough energy or raw emotion behind it to seem like a Kings of Leon album. I have no problem with bands changing their sound. I believe it shows who you really are as a musician. If you can pull it off while staying true to who you are, it puts you miles ahead of most other bands. I thought that's what Kings of Leon did with Because of the Times last year. For some reason this album is making me rethink that statement. Maybe they just rushed it, maybe they were worried about how their next album would do now they were big, who knows. It's just not quite up to par for Kings of Leon, which is more a compliment than anything else. I'm interested to see how their next album is. I still have faith in these guys, just because this isn't as good as I was hoping for, it could have been a lot worse.

Not their best effort
Kings of Leon is one of my favourite bands and I have grown to love their raw energy. This is a good album with a few excellent songs and a lot of mediocre ones. This is a totally different direction for the band and some may like that. It is way overproduced though, and somewhat contrived. I wish they wouldn't have sold out and just go back to what made them famous in the first place.
