Mind Games

This movie keeps you guessing,as to who really is the crook and the good cop.this movie is really great.

An enjoyable action movie

I normally don't watch action movies unless it's highly recommended or unless I watch it with people, because they tend to suck, But I was bored so I watched "Street Kings" and the whole time I could not take my eyes off the screen and it turned out to be an enjoyable movie. I wasn't expecting anything because I didn't know what it would be like. The actors and everyone did a good job. Usually by the time a movie ends (typical action movie), I would think "what??!", but when this movie ended I was not at all disappointed. I definitely recommend it , but I'm not sure that I would want to rewatch it.

Violent, Intense Police Thriller

Street Kings is a high-energy, extremely bloody, extremely intense action film that highlights all of the moral ambiguities that police dramas like this (LA Confidential, Training Day) ask: How do cops draw the line between policing the bad guys and becoming like them? Do we need cops that can take the streets and not be distinguished from the back guys to the extent that we have to put up with their excesses?

Street Kings deals with a detective unit that operates with little or no regulation. Tom Ludlow, played by Keanu Reeves, is the tactical bulldog of the unit, not afraid of being killed or of killing any bad guy who gets in his way. Alcoholic and still saddened by the death of his wife, Ludlow is a loose cannon who gets bloody results for his superior, played by Forrest Whitaker. Ludlow has done such a good job on a high-profile case that Whitaker has been promoted. However, Ludlow's ex-partner keeps popping up in the background. He and Ludlow parted ways badly, and he insinuates that he has evidence that will bring Ludlow down. As Ludlow goes to confront him in a convenience store, two masked men gun the ex-partner down. Ludlow begins to investigate the murder, drawing the attention of an Internal Affairs detective, played by House's Hugh Laurie. Ludlow also finds himself reluctantly unofficially paired with a young, eager detective, played by Chris Evans.

Reeves seems to warm to this role, playing it with a lot more depth and emotion that we usually see from him. Whitaker is fine as usual, and the supporting cast, Laurie, Evans, John Corbett, Cedric The Entertainer, and rappers Common and the Game take up the rest of the slack nicely. This is not Academy Award winning fare, but it is a solid, well-acted movie that many will find entertaining.

A Hugh Laurie movie

Do not usually like this kind of a movie, but Hugh Laurie made it all worth while.

Surprisingly good

David Ayer, the man behind Training Day and Dark Blue, hits the crooked cop angle again with Street Kings, which stars Keanu Reeves as Tom Ludlow, a burned out cop who plays by his own rules. Anything he does is covered up by his even more crooked captain (Forest Whitaker), both of whom come under fire from an Internal Affairs captain (Hugh Laurie) that is investigating them. Things get even worse for Ludlow when he's implicated in the murder of his former partner (Terry Crews), leading to a teaming with a young detective (Chris Evans) to unravel a conspiracy that not everyone will walk away from. Gritty, profane, and violent to its core, Street Kings features a surprisingly riveting performances from Reeves, and even better ones from Whitaker and Laurie. The only flaw of Street Kings is it's conclusion, but for most of it's running time, Street Kings is a riveting cop drama. Also featuring Cedric the Entertainer, Jay Mohr, Common, Naomie Harris, John Corbett, and The Game.
