The Shack
A wonderful read, The Shack brought me closer to my relationship to the Lord by helping me feel more comfortable with my relationship, more real... closer to my heart. I hope you read it... then talk about it.. with people you know, respect, and love. Merry Christmas.
The Shack - Excellent Book - Easy Read
This book was extremely uplifting for me. It touched me deeply. It left me with such a good feeling that I have bought it for about 6 other people already and also bought the Audio CD for my husband to listen to as he travels. He enjoyed it as much as I did. It is an unusual work of fiction that has changed the way we feel about how God loves us and cares for us and has left us comforted and peaceful.

A Letter to My Sisters: The Way OutLooking thru the Fence/ Diamonds in the Rough
This book was riveting. It truly highlighted in a unique way, your personal relationship with God as being real in your life, not just some pie in the sky character. It was both heart jerking and humorous. I loved the characterizations. It helped me in my understanding of where my spiritual growth is - that is how spiritually mature am I? I would recommend it to those that know Jesus as their personal Saviour. I think it would be difficult for a new-born to grasp the concept of oneness, but it can be done. I suggest that they read and meditate on the Gospel of John first.
RICK "SHAQ" GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "AM I FREE TO LEAVE?...OF COURSE YOU ARE! I'M NOT INTERESTED IN PRISONERS."
Mackenzie (Mack) Philips is a loving husband and Father with a wonderful religious wife Nan and three children; Kate, Josh and Missy. Nan has always had a close relationship with G-d and even refers to him as "Papa". Mack had a horrendous childhood due to an abusive alcoholic Father and he ran away from home for good at the age of thirteen. A lifetime later... Mack decided to take his kids on a camping trip over Labor Day weekend to northeastern Oregon. Nan didn't join them since she had a prior commitment at a continuing education class in Seattle. The trip started off in a fashion that could only be described as complete natural bliss. The beautiful scenery... the story telling... and the pure loving wonderment... that any man lucky enough to be a Father... surrounded by loving children... in the heart of all that exquisite mother nature entails... is suddenly and irrevocably shattered... when little Missy disappears.
After a massive search turns up Missy's bloody dress in an abandoned shack... what the author describes as "THE-GREAT-SADNESS" not only hangs over Mack... but literally shackles his entire body and soul... for years... until a mysterious typed message... in an envelope... with no stamp or postmark... with no return address... appears in his mailbox. The typed note says: "MACKENZIE, IT'S BEEN A WHILE. I'VE MISSED YOU. I'LL BE AT THE SHACK NEXT WEEKEND IF YOU WANT TO GET TOGETHER. -PAPA-.
What happens to Mack at that shack on the anointed weekend... as he meets "The-Holy-Trinity" among others... makes him at times doubt his own sanity. I don't want to give anything else away about this spiritually mystical weekend... and... since I am not biblically educated enough to comment or debate whether the exact depictions are accurate to the true nature of the bible... I won't deliberate on that issue... but I do feel very strongly... that by sharing my personal emotions that were deeply affected by this part of the book... I can greatly influence potential readers in the same boat as me. The spiritual parts of this book made me have a deeper understanding of the ever important words... "FAITH" and "BELIEF". The author also did an outstanding job in making me understand what G-d meant when he said: "MY PURPOSE FROM THE BEGINNING WAS TO LIVE IN YOU AND YOU IN ME."
I also enjoyed the way the author incorporated some modern day humor through the use of modern "lingo" to get across points that may not have been as effective had it been told in ancient vernacular.
An example as Mack talks to G-d: "BUT I ALWAYS LIKED JESUS BETTER THAN YOU. HE SEEMED SO GRACIOUS AND YOU SEEMED SO..."
"MEAN? SAD ISN'T IT? HE CAME TO SHOW PEOPLE WHO I AM AND MOST FOLKS ONLY BELIEVE IT ABOUT HIM. THEY STILL PLAY US OFF LIKE GOOD COP/BAD COP MOST OF THE TIME, ESPECIALLY THE RELIGIOUS FOLK. WHEN THEY WANT PEOPLE TO DO WHAT THEY THINK IS RIGHT, THEY NEED A STERN G-D. WHEN THEY NEED FORGIVENESS, THEY RUN TO JESUS."
I feel this book has changed me in the way I will attempt to act toward other people.
