Good first HDTV
I bought this model last Monday and have had the opportunity to test it out.
First, the
HDTV
attributes. All the HD feeds I have watched looked great on this TV (especially the feeds from Discovery and NBA on TNT, they had me stopped in my tracks!). As I have this
monitor
in a small bedroom, those 1080i signals look amazing, even on a small screen. The 720p stuff looks great too, and the SD broadcasts are definitely watchable.
Second, the
LCD
monitor attributes. I tested my mid-2008 midline macbook (white) using the mini DVI to VGA adapter. The text on several websites (facebook, iGoogle, Gmail) were clear for me, and a test of Hulu's HD stream of 30 rock looked almost as good as the NBC broadcast. As soon as Netflix starts streaming HD on PC/Mac, I plan on using this monitor for watching streams from them, otherwise it looks grainy and noticably low-res (which isn't the monitor's fault).
Overall, well worth what I considered a low price point, and is for me a great entry-level HDTV for a small to medium sized room!

Amazing!
Not only is this an outstanding
monitor
, it is a great value. Compare this to the
Samsung
HDTV
's and see how much a 26" runs, without the great monitor function. I own 2 Samsung HDTV's and this is the third Samsung monitor I now own. I used to be a big Sony fan, but most Samsung products are now much better in my experience. If you are ready to spend this much money on a monitor, I don't see how you can do better.

Good value but could be better
The good:
- No dead or stuck pixels, attractive design, large screen.
- Solid performance taking the place of my bedroom TV while also serving as a
monitor
in my dual monitor setup.
- The sound is decent but since the speakers face downwards instead of towards the front it does'nt sound as good as tv only monitors.
- Works great with PS3 and XBox 360 via the HDMI inputs.
The bad (overall experience):
- Poor packaging/shipping via Amazon, the manufacturer's box was put in a much bigger cardboard box with almost no padding so it was just bouncing around all the way from the warehouse to my house. I cringed when I saw the UPS guy lift and drop the box repeatedly as he brought it up to my house. Amazon usually does a great job in packing the products they have shipped to me in the past but I was just glad everything worked and I did'nt have to return it.
- Factory settings made the
color
s very washed out compared to my other
LCD
monitor that uses a better panel, a
Samsung
S-PVA. I tried adjusting values on my own but still was not satisfied. I bought a monitor calibrator after someone suggested it and now it looks pretty good for a TN panel.
- Power button is slow to respond so I no longer bother with it, I just use the remote to turn it on/off and to change the source.
- After 2 months the website for checking on status of my Samsung rebate still says that nothing has been received. It should only take a couple of weeks at most to say that it has been received and in "processing" which would take another 2 months. I had a bad feeling that I fell into the percentage of rebate submissions that get "rejected" for one fake reason or another so that they don't pay beyond their budgeted funds for rebates. That's the same problem with most companies that offer mail in rebates.

Picture > GREAT......Sound > yukk
I bought this mainly as a computer
monitor
with the ability to catch the news and such. This set has an excellent picture. Brightness and contrast had to be set for PC differently than for TV. Fortunately these settings are independent of each other. There were no dead pixels.
The sound however was weak and poorly equalized. Tweaking the equalizer improved it a little but with such poor initial engineering the resonance resulted in a very cheap sound. Apparently there isn't an RTA in
Samsung
's house.
I don't see an A or C following the S/N but elsewhere it says made in Taiwan. Is this one of the off-quality cheaply made ones referred to earlier? Please comment. Looks like I will be using my old PC speakers because this set does not sound as good.
