An Excellent CD/SACD Player

I own three of these units Sony SCD-CE595 5-Disc CD/Super Audio CD Player. I purchased all three of them three years ago after my son introduced me to SACD.

All three units are in constant use. I have two of them set up for stereo playback only and the third unit, in my home theater, is set for multi-channel playback.

I had thought that, due to the low price (currently $123.66 INCLUDING shipping at Amazon - less than what I paid three years ago!), these machines would not be constructed with a great deal of integrity. I was wrong. The build quality is superb.

I have had not even a hiccup with the mechanical components.

As some others have written, the remote control is limited in its functionality. But this is not really a problem. This machine is one of the very few for which you do not really need a remote control at all. Every function but one can be easily accessed from the front panel (just like in the "old days!"). The ONLY function that can only be accessed via the remote is turning off the display. So you will find that, in fact, the remote control for this machine is perfectly adequate.

And now I must say: don't let anyone kid you - the sound quality difference between CD and SACD is like night and day, especially with jazz and classical albums (which, since they are recorded acoustically, can really demonstrate the difference between good sound and bad sound).

And there's another thing on which "they'll" try to kid you - the difference in sound quality between this machine and a $1000.00+ machine is non-existent. The sound source from this, or any other SACD player, is the same. Only your audio system will make a difference. Obviously, on a better audio system, the sound quality will be better.

This changer is also an excellent CD player and, as its price is so low, it makes sense to buy this one instead of a CD-only player. That way, should you ever decide to try SACD, you have the best of both worlds.

And if you don't, well, you haven't overpaid for a top-quality CD changer!

This CD player does far more than I thought. I'm very pleased with delivery, price, and Sony quality.

Incredible value!

If you're looking for a CD player which offers phenomenal detail, imaging, and sound stage width/depth look no further! In comparison with the highly rated NAD 542 and Music Hall 25, this far less costly machine was vastly superior in every respect. In fact, it held its own against my reference, a Wadia Model 6 which is considered one of the finest CD players ever made. Sony has created a truly remarkable value which will serve well in any high end audio system!

A+ Super Value

I do not want to repeat what others have already said, but this is a great value for the quality. Since it plays both CD and SACD it seems like a no-brainer. Once you hear a SACD version you will want to get all SACDs, but the selection is quite limited. I heard Pink Floyd's "Dark Side..." and it was breath taking. The clarity on SACD "Chopin: Ballades..." is unworldly, especially for a 1959 recording. Highly recommend.
