A new element is added to the mix

Once again, the author presents a unique and compelling story that surprises us, introduces us to new characters, and gives Darren - gasp! - a girlfriend.

Mr. Crepsley has a mysterious meeting with one of the Vampire Generals, and just as mysteriously he leaves with Darren, allowing Darren's friend the snake boy (his name escapes me and the book isn't around) to accompany him.

They all travel to a city where, once they arrive, Darren and the snake boy see on the news that people are dying, and that their bodies are being sucked dry of blood. Given Mr. Crepsley's odd silence and distant behavior, the boys conclude that Mr. Crepsley may be involved in the deaths. They decide to trail Mr. Crepsley when he leaves at night, to see where he is going and what he is doing. And they find out - and that's where the nightmare really begins.

I won't discuss what actually happens, but I'll say this: you might think you know at least part of what's going on, but when you get the full explanation, you'll realize that you really didn't have a clue.

The only thing that I find slightly annoying about this series is that Mr. Crepsley - a very well respected vampire - seems to make quite a few mistakes. Without these mistakes (withholding information, for one), there would be no story. I'd like to see that change.

A Whole New Direction For The Series

Darren Shan continues his addictive series with the tunnels of blood. Shan keeps the reader's interest by adding yet another new wrinkle with mysterious killings occurring. Darren finds a love interest and is able to explore a part of his life he thought died when he became Mr. Crepsley's assistant. Evra the snake boy goes along to show the strength of Darren's friendship with Evra, and their relationship is definitely tested.

What is discovered in the Tunnels of Blood only adds to the suspense that consistently builds in this series. EVERYTHING presented in these first books of the Cirque series will be relevant in later books. Fortunately Shan re-visits characters and pieces of plot at exactly the right time.

Darren Shan is quite a talented author who writes a series that can be enjoyed by any age group, and this series needs to be made into a film ASAP.

The vampirinize is loose

In this book Darren and Evra go to the city for christmas. Daren meats a human girl and gets a crush on her,which of course goes terribly wrong. Then boddys show up draind of blood. Of course Daren and Evra go after the nearest vampire unknowing of the real danger. They do not know what else lurks in the dark of the city. This book is a horror novel by Darren Shan. I give this book five stars because it rules. But I only recomend this book to the nonsquimish.

In this book Mr. Crepsley and Darren are going to a town to track a vampire who has been killing people for pleasure. Darren doesn't know about what they went to the town for. Darren is happy enough that he could bring a friend along this time. Mr. Crepsley and Darren are vampires; they travel all over so they don't get discovered. Darren and Evera spent most of there time messing around in town. One day when they were messing around Darren met a girl that he really liked. Darren and Evera were watching T. V. when they herd about a murder that happened in the same town that they were in. the two of them thought that Mr. Crepsley was killing people so they agreed that they need to follow him. Every night they tried to follow Mr. Crepsley but always fell behind and lost him. The next day there was always a news report that someone was killed the night before. One night they were able to keep up with Mr. Crepsley. They followed him all the way to a meat storage facility. Darren followed him into the facility and saw him stalking a man there. Darren suddenly saw a blur go after the man so he yelled. The blur went after Darren. Darren then discovered that it wasn't Mr. Crepsley but another vampire an evil vampire. Mr. Crepsley told Darren whom it was that they were following after he scared him away. When they went out they could not find Evera instead they found scales that led into the sewer. They went down into the sewer and started looking for the evil vampire. They found were he was living and were Evera was. They decided to trade Darren's girlfriend for Evera. To find out what happens you will have to read the book for your self.

Pretty good

I think that this book was o.k..It had its ups and downs but it is mostly good. The thing i like about this book is that it is really easy to read and has a pretty good storyline. Something i didnt like though is that is was a bit slow, unlike the 2 books before it. Make sure you read the other 2 books before you read this one or else it wont make sense. i give it a 9 out of 10.
