Toddy Soaker Coffee is the best

Coffee soaked in the Toddy Soaker is the best coffee. Course Ground beans are soaked in cold water over night, and filter next morning. Keep the Coffee Concentrate in the fridge. By soaking the beans in COLD water, the Tanic acid and oils are not cooked out of the beans. You will see some oil residue on the inside of the soaker when you wash. The Tanic Acid and oils are what upset your stomach when you drink regular coffee. These are what give coffee the bitter taste. Remember, The Indians use to TAN there deer hides with Tanic Acid, it can't be good for your stomach.
By using the Toddy Soaker, you can buy the GOOD coffee beans, and use them up completely. You never have to throw away that left over perc'ed coffee in the pot. I soak the beans three times. 1st soak is the best, 2nd soak is for the second cup in the morning, third soak if for my wife who adds creamer and doesn't care about good tasting coffee. My thoughts on the Coffee Toddy System

My recent purchase was a replacement as I have been using the Coffee Toddy system for over 20 years. I got rid of my standard coffee pots years ago as I enjoyed the ease and taste of my coffee using the Coffee Toddy's cold process method.

This cold brew system is super easy to use and makes an outstanding cup of coffee. 12 hour brew time is a pain but the convenience of the concentrated coffee makes up for it.

Not Too Bad

I bought a toddy maker in hopes of saving money on fancy beverages, and reducing the acid that tears up my stomach. Here are some random thoughts and suggestions:

1. Although 9 cups of water are used, I only get 4+ cups of finished product. I adjusted to coarseness of the grind in hopes of getting more. Didn't work. However, if the grind is too fine the whole contraption gets constipated!

2. I let it sit longer than the required 12 hours. I figured that having a fairly coarse grind might balance things out. Didn't seem to cause any harm.

3. Keeps longer than what the booklet says...unless you consume it in record amounts like my family.

4. Grind the coffee and use it right away. Also, try different beans. I didn't care for French roast.

5. My blueberry bushes were very happy to get the leftover grounds.

5 Star Coffee, 3 Star Process

I'm going to keep using the Toddy Maker, and I like the coffee I make with it. I prefer iced coffee. If I preferred hot coffee I'd probably use something different.

The people who say "it's messy" are probably using the pound of coffee with 9 cups of water method. That fills the Maker right up to the top, and you ARE going to make a mess with that once in a while. Trying to balance the Maker while you try to pull the plug out of the bottom before you set it on the carafe is cumbersome. (I just had a spill). Fortunately I use the maker in my kitchen sink, or I'd be even less happy with it at the moment. I probably wouldn't have this problem if I used the 6 cup of water recipe.

Pros: I make coffee once a week (using the 9 cup of water recipe), drink 2 or 3 cups/day, and I haven't found a coffee shop that does it more to my liking.

Cons: The Toddy Maker feels cheap. The handle that comes with it doesn't make it less cumbersome. The carafe is breakable and not microwavable.

Let me suggest an alternative to the full kit:

While you shouldn't stick it in the microwave, it's much more stable than the Toddy carafe, and the GSI press carafe is practically unbreakable. And it's got a usable handle.

Then get the consumables that you're going to have to buy anyway:

Yes, all that'll cost you $54.25 instead of the $28 for the complete Toddy Maker Kit. But $6 of that'll be on consumable supplies that you're going to have to buy anyway. And $30 of it will give you a French Press large enough to use at parties. To say nothing about how you'll feel if you drop that Toddy Maker carafe on the floor.

Lastly, once you get your Toddy Maker, come back and read the most helpful reviews again. A couple of them are better than the manual.

PS the 9 cup of water recipe returns 6 cups of coffee concentrate. You mix about 1/3rd cup of that with hot or cold water or milk to make a cup of drink. The reason I recommend the $30 50 ounce French press is, it'll hold the 6 cups that comes out of the Toddy Maker. If you use the 6 cup of water recipe, you might be able to get away with the $22 French press. But it only holds 33 ounces. And I'd hate for you to forget and try the 9 cup recipe and end up with a mess. Besides, it really is nice to have a 50 ounce French press for the times you have friends & family over and need to make more hot coffee than usual.
