The Missing Link!

Simply put, this excellent book is a MUST HAVE for ProShow users of all skill levels. The author also hosts the "ProShow Expert Forum" where users can share tips, get help, and discuss techniques covered in the book. Worth every penny!

Great Book!

Pro Show is a program that lets you use your imagination to create great presentations a la Ken Burnes (Civil War, The War) It includes a CD with all the files for the different tutorials. With this book you'll learn the insides and out of such a wonderful program. The tutorials are very well written and cover all the major features of the program; published in color and using excellent paper. Exquisitely done. After reading cover to cover and spending some time going through the tutorials, you'll be making spectacular presentations. Enjoy!

Not for Beginners

I've been using ProShow Gold for about 3 years now. I would NOT recommend this guide for anyone just starting out.

The text and CD have not been sufficiently screened for errors. In Chapter 3 there is an instances where a .jpg should have transparent sections but the white spaces are opaque instead. When layers are blocked from displaying due to this, discovering and correcting the error is not for a beginner. In Chapter 4, adding sound, the ProShow file (wasp gold01.psh) is supposed to load with an included sound track but doesn't. You have to know how to add a sound track to proceed with a lesson telling you how to add a sound track.

If you are already an experienced ProShow user the guide is quite helpful in expanding your knowledge and providing clever examples. Just be prepared to do some guide debugging along the way.

The ProShow program itself is great.

Very informative despite too many errors and bad choices

I have been using ProShow Gold for a about three years and I recently upgraded to Producer. The manual's that Photodex includes with their products, if you pay extra for a CD and manual, are very poor.

From reading this book, of which I'm close to halfway through, has been enormously helpful, especially at exposing many features that one may never find just by hacking their way through the program. Several times a feature has been introduced that I had to exclaim, "WOW".

However, the author has chosen to use fonts that are not generally available in slides so a different font is substituted automatically and the substituted font frequently doesn't fit on the slide correctly. Also, as someone else mentioned, he chose to use photos with watermarks on them. If he would have substituted fonts himself with common Windows fonts and used photos that didn't have to be watermarked, the tutorial would be much improved. There are lots of typos and a missing audio file and he refers to the wrong picture. However, the worst errors are corrected in his online forum at [...]. With this in mind, I think this book is excellent for both novices and advanced ProShow users--especially those using Proshow Producer which the author really pushes early on in his book.

If anyone worthwhile would have reviewed this book with its CD and recognized all its problems, those problems could easily have been resolved and the book would easily rate five stars.
