The Truth
As in all fiction the heart of it's true. We look no further than our news media, TV talking heads and Radio blathers to be drenched in corruption. The story outlines how with myriad stacks of cash and a shrewd attack force of promoters can elect anyone to any position. Mr Grisham has awarded us with a clarion novel. Sadly it is all factual. I highly recommend this novel. It spells out the way it is in American politics, Government and our legal system.
More Fact than Fiction
Although this is a work of fiction, it is an accurate observation on the state of affairs of the inter-actions of our judicial, political, and industrial systems. Especially during the era of Bush II.
Perhaps this book was inspired by the book and movie " A Civil Action" which depicts the true case of chemical waste dumping which polluted the drinking water supply of a nearby community.
Because this is an almost non-fiction work, some of the characters and actions seem stilted. I believe that is what bothered some of the negative reviews. There is very little gray in this book: a protagonist is either good or he is greedy and evil.
