Humour aplenty revolving around the theme: "Use your brains and loosen up!"
As the subject of my review goes, this book is really about opening up the human mind, think out of the box and finally go out and use that muscle between your ears :-)
Moore has given me a perspective on how fast the way we think about ecosystem could be entirely WRONG and he does with plenty of humor, wit and totally wacky ideas!
Absolutely delightful read!
Funny & Great ...
I knew that I needed a laugh the other night when I picked this book up ~~ and as always, Moore is reliable in providing the laughs. This book is just great ~~ funny, sassy, crude and says as it is ... just the medicine I needed to get through the hump of the holiday season. (I think I just created a new Christmas tradition for myself ... read a Christopher Moore book at the beginning and find myself in a better mood throughout the greedy, oops, crazy holiday season!)
This book is about Nate Quinn, a scientist researching the meaning of
why
whale
s sing. He is located off of Hawaii and has endured three failed marriages, a long track record of being a researcher at the top of his field and one day, while out on the water, he happened to see something written on the fins of a humpback whale ... and all his rationale flew out of the window. Then he goes missing, presumably drowned. Only, he didn't drown ... he was off in another adventure of something much bigger than what humankind would ever dream of

The sarcasm is wonderful ~~ I don't get to be sacarstic very often and it's great to read it in a book ~~ where the author pulls no punches in telling his story. This book is a must read for every serious Christopher Moore fan. If you're looking for something to cheer you up, this book ought to do the trick. It's wonderful, quirky, funny, fast-paced and definitely not dull. It's perfect to take on that long drive/flight home ... so make sure you get a copy of it!

Moore Along With Providing Lots of Laughs Gives the Reader Something More to Think About Conservation Wise As Well!
Doesn't grip you from the first paragraphs like most of his other novels do but once it gets going
Fluke
is another fun read. Nate Quinn a marine biologist has been following, photographing, tracking and recording data on humpback
whale
s in an effort to discover the reasoning behind
why
they sing for quite some time. On one particular voyage he is shocked to see the words Bite Me on the tail of a whale. When the frame of the film with the words goes missing from the processing lab and his lab is turned over it becomes obvious he's stumbled upon something he never imagined his research would reveal. Throw in the normal Moore magic, which I'm not going to give away as discovering this is part of the fun and you've got another exciting read.
Along with another great Moore adventure Moore also provides at the end a bonus encore in the form of a few author opinion conservation papers. My favourite is the one with the heading Conservation. Finally someone is prepared to write something with the facts without having to soften it down with political correctness such as his response to the often ludicrous argument that hunting whales is a cultural tradition and must be preserved. Moore explains - "This, of course is utter bull s. It's a tradition of Americans of European descent to commit genocide on indigenous people, but that doesn't mean we ought to start doing it again. Even some ideas are still bad ideas," (from p316). Finally someone telling it like it is without worrying about offending people. Same cultural argument is used out here in Australia for hunting and eating endangered species such as Dugongs and is exactly what Moore said, utter bull s!

Its Fine.
This One Ends abruptly and without satisfaction. I loved "the stupidest angel" and all his other books.
