I see the world differently now
Every once in a while you read a book that changes the way you look at the world.
Sidewalk
is that kind of book. It has made me understand poverty, the humanity of people on the streets, and my own self as I look at these issues. This is not a romantic or bleeding heart book. It is brutally honest, but it helps you see the human beings behind behavior that get defined as so bad.
Best Book on Urban Life Since City of Quartz
As a lifelong resident of the Village, I found this book to be a revelation about worlds I had always walked by and taken for granted. It is the best book I have read on city life since Mike Davis' City of Quartz and a great updating of Jane Jacobs.

Changes your perceptions
I have always been captivated by the men on the streets. This book altered my perceptions of these men. I had always pitied them, but after reading Duneier I have a deeper understanding of this complex social problem. Duneier's sociological analysis has enlightened my perceptions of
sidewalk
life. The pictures were also great and really added to Duneier's discussion.
An Immediate Classic
I read this book over Christmas, and it really put me in the Christmas spirit. The stories of people on the street, and the incredible photographs, and the great afterward by intellectual of the
sidewalk
Hakim Hasan all add up to a fantastic read. I highly recommend this book. It will be an immediate classic.

Masters Research
What an interesting and fascinating read to say the least. I was intrigued with all of the participants of the book. Most importantly I was so overwhelmed with information about these vendors, and as a native New Yorker I didn't even know half of the issues that come into play. I see these vendors all the time and like all the other pedestrians I see them as a neusance to say the least, but I can empathize with them and the issues they go through while pedaling their 'goods'. I now have a deeper understanding of the complex social structure of the '
Sidewalk
