I have read several of John Ortberg's books and this one is no exception. If you are truly looking to seek God and have a personal relationship with him in your life... but need help, this book (with your bible of course) can do just that...
using it as Sunday school material in our church... they really like it..

This book lives up to its title

This is a wonderful book for Bible study or just to read. Unlike other books about spiritual disciplines, this one gives practical ideas that are easy to incorporate into your daily life. It is very uplifting and removes alot of guilt from not living up to what you may think is expected of you as a Christian.

practical and fun

Great book for small groups. The group questions are challenging and provoke a lot of conversation. Spiritual disciplines without the guilt!

Great Catalyst and Illustrations

John Ortberg's work is highly entertaining, as he is a master at collecting and weaving together illustrations. As such, the book is an easy read, and readers won't get bogged down. He has drawn some of his insight into spiritual disciplines from Dallas Willard's more indepth works, and after reading Willard, you can see clear parallels. Ortberg at times has powerful insight, and is always useful. Written at a popular level, however, the topical treatment is almost always superficial, and will not give much insight into Biblical underpinning. Still, the book is a worthy read, and may prove to be a catalyst to testing the waters of spiritual disciplines for those who are tired of "life as usual" and want to see how they can work with God to experience the "life they have always wanted."

Excellent book for adult Sunday school classes

Our Sunday School class is finishing The Life You've Always Wanted by John Ortberg. It has been a big hit. (We also studied his book If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat a couple years ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. People still refer to its themes.)

Ortberg is very readable. He knows his subject matter well, ties the Bible in appropriately, tells good stories and offers excellent insights. Yet he does it in a very transparent and humble fashion. He never pretends that he has it all together and is now going to enlighten the little people. He is candid about his own failings and challenges, which makes his work much more approachable.

The book covers various spiritual disciplines and gives practical advice on how to transform our lives. It addresses celebrating, slowing down, prayer, servanthood, confession, Bible study, suffering and more. It has study questions for each chapter in the back, so it works well for a Sunday School class format.
